Dust Devil: The Final Cut ~ 5-disc boxset in September!
I'd seen mention of a director's cut of Dust Devil a while back, and the final specs were announced on Friday. This is a real stunner of a set, especially for the price.
Not up anywhere (that I could find) for preorder yet, though.
From DavisDVD:
Dust Devil: The Final Cut
Limited Edition 5-Disc Boxed Set
Only 10,000 Available For Only $29.95
Subversive Cinema is proud to announce its upcoming release of Richard Stanley's cult favorite Dust Devil: The Final Cut. This is the long-awaited authorized director's cut, supervised by Stanley, and will be out as an exclusive new boxed set in September.
Wendy (David Lynch's Hotel Room) leaves her husband, taking off into the voids of Africa. She picks up a hitchhiker (Robert John Burke; Confessions of a Dangerous Mind, Munich), a traveling serial killer who snaps photos of his victims before killing them. Wendy does not realize the danger she is in until a police detective (Zakes Mokae; The Comedians, Serpent and the Rainbow) arrives to warn her that her "companion" is something much worse than just a killer -- he is a shape-shifting demon who steals his victims' souls. Soon both the officer and Wendy become the next intended victims of the Dust Devil...
The 5-disc set will feature a brand new high-definition 16x9 widescreen transfer of the complete film. Please note that this is not the same transfer used for the July Region 2 British release, which was taken from a 2001 standard definition transfer. Subversive's version will also boast a new commentary track (again, not the same as the British release) with the director.
In addition, the set will include deleted scenes, a new featurette, a 5.1 mix and the original 2.0 stereo mix, a substantially longer "rough cut," Easter Eggs," and if that weren't enough, this limited edition set will include three of Stanley's most controversial documentaries: The White Darkness (an exclusive to this edition), The Voice of the Moon, and Secret Glory, all with commentaries by Stanley and interviews. Limited to one pressing only of 10,000 units, the set will be priced at $29.95 SRP and streets on September 26, 2006.

Is this worth a blind buy if you're a fan of Hardware?
Does anyone know if Subversive Cinema or any other studio has plans to finally release Hardware on DVD? It would nice to at least have a one disc special edition of that one.

Last I heard, Buena Vista had HARDWARE. They were *this* close to releasing it, but then it got cancelled. It might belong to someone else, but I'm not sure.
I'm sure glad I still have the laserdisc.

DDD has it up, as well, at $19.99 and Amazon for $21.99, but I preordered through Xploited since DDD has been pretty slow for me in the past (even when I pay for shipping).

DDD has it listed as Dust Devil LE/3D... I would think that stands for Limited Edition Three Discs.
Amazon also says NUMBER OF DISCS: 3... but then under DVD FEATURES, it says 5 disc box set. Are we certain it's the five disc set in both cases, or is there maybe a smaller one being released at the same time?
Also, I wasn't aware that the only actual movies Richard Stanley made were Dust Devil and Hardware, bot of which I love. All the rest of his films are documentaries and shorts.

It's a good movie, but who needs five discs worth of it?

An irrelevant question, really.
Who's going to shrug off five friggin' discs of quality content for a relatively obscure/cult flick, all for a few bucks more than what you'd pay for a single disc most times? Not I!

If you like his work, this is a good way to get some things that are hard to find. It's a GREAT deal for fans of the director.

Look at post #7. It has a link to xploitedcinema. Amazon has it. DDD has it (even though it's listed as a 3-disc set).

But... yet... its... listed... as... 3 disc. hmmm...
I've been hearing about the 5-disc set, where are the sites for the 5-disc set?
Would they not promote it for what it is?
I've seen post #7 and the websites you've mentioned... but they are all listed as the 3 disc.
Xploitedcinema.com is sold out of the 5 disc BTW... and have been for awhile now.
Grrrr.... 5 disc... where are you?
