anyone have any experience with the ikea Expedit bookshelf ? looking to pick one up for my dvds, but my gf doesnt want an entire wall of the living room to be solid dvds so im trying to figure a way to make a double layer thing in each cube to cut the space taken up so she can make it more nice looking or whatever. i would need some kind of clear boxes or lifts that are about 5 inches high by 13 wide and maybe 6-8 inches deep, to get in a second layer of dvds behind the first row, but elevated so you can still see the spine. is there anywhere you can get something like this like 12 of them other than cardboard boxes...any ideas ??

im considering plexiglass, but im pretty sure it would be a super pain cutting up the pieces for a dozen of these, unless there no other relatively cheap alternative.

Thanks

i have the expedit, the massive 5x5 one (over 6 ft tall and wide). i dont use it for dvds though. on this one (the biggest one) the cubes are way too big for dvds. if you didnt put anything in the cubby with the dvds you would only be using like 1/4 of each cubby. for instance right now i have three rows of statues and figures in each. however it is possible that if you get the smaller expedit, the cubbies themselves might be smaller too (as opposed to just less of them) and that might be better. last time i was at ikea i think i saw in the expedite section some kind of clear casing that you can buy that fits the cubbies, possibly similar to what you are looking for regarding the plexiglass.

Identify,

I love your setup. Simple, uncluttered and classy look. Very nice.

Upload them to another site like www.imageshack.us or www.photobucket.com then put the link in an [IMG] tag.

JDSlater1 wow. What a great setup you have with your DVDs and such. Is that a piece of original Chasing Amy artwork, or is it a print of some kind?

What are you using to hold up your dvds at an angle/slant like that? I desperately need some to show off some of my dvds that I want to put on display. Any advice?

Oh, and very nice collection! I love it! I'm planning the same kind of thing, with Sin City, V for Vendetta and King Kong, where I will dispaly all of my dvd versions of the movie, along with any extra figures/collectibles I have.

I'm pretty sure it's a print. I believe you can get it at the online version of Jay and Silent Bob's Secret Stash (the link escapes me right now, though...).

Wow guys, thanks for the remarks! Answer your questions as best as I can.
madcougar, the Chasing Amy artwork is from the Kevin Smith site and I also got the "United Jersey brotherhood of dealers" card.
Big Worms, in no particular order.2 x UK HMV exclusive, Germany 2 disc steelbook , Hong Kong version. US R1 unrated, HK Premium edition and german 2 disc with soundtrack.
Disney Lover, just ol' reliable Billy shelfs from IKEA. I had the one with doors 1st and just started drilling my own holes to make things fit better. I think I ended up buying 4 more shelfs. Just make sure if you buy that many units drill them together and to the wall. They move quite alot if you don't.
bunnydojo, you are the Master of custom covers. I have a couple more hidden away aswell but I have a sucky printer so they are not exactly front and center! Is they any chance of getting some different covers mate?
MrStayPuft, the stands are the same stores use for books. Just arcylic (sp?) book stands. do a google search for that. I also used the same company (in the UK) for the Smith figures, using a kinda step display. Also i have purchased a stand to have things higher than the ones at the front, like the Smith display.

I did have a KK section but I had a very nice Hong Kong version with a pocket watch that I managed to sell for a good price and then just got rid of that section. MrStayPuft you should be able to do a good KK collection because of the R1 production diaries and the upcoming directors cut.
I'm also doing a V for Vendetta section. I have the R3 steelbook with comic coming soon. I also having a promo box with a set of dominos and will get the upcoming 7" figure.

Here is what I all have for my planned King Kong display: Best Buy exclusive tin of the original and sequals (which I have unopened), King Kong 2 disc SE, Production Diaries, then the new gift set w/ 3 disc dvd and Kong figure.

Here is what I will have for the V display: US 2 disc SE, US 2 disc SE w/ Target exclusive lenticular cover, US 1 disc w/ CC lithograph, R4 ezydvd exclusive tin, and will definately get the 7inch V figure when he comes out. Any dates on when it will come out?

Thanks for the info on the stands!
