I already pre-ordered it from Amazon.com....by money order. Mailed it yesterday. That's how bad I want this DVD. Now I just have to wait for four months.
It's going to be a long, slow wait.
That's what I'm most interested in too. It's about damn time we get a remastered and 16x9 enhanced transfer for the 1974 Chainsaw. I'm sick of that Pioneer DVD with its lousy non-anamorphic transfer.
It's going to be a long, slow wait.

This is, by far, my favorite horror film of all time. The remake can't hold a candle to it, IMHO. Bring it on! I just wish we didn't have to wait until September.

My favorite film of all time.
a must buy as i own 5 versions of it already.
but i disagree with the Screenshots, and with the previous HD version-- i don't really think the film looks that great.
the film looks too clean and colors way too bright-- like the messed up the Halloween Divimax.
the film has always looked washed out and grainy- i own a Print of the film, and i wouldn't want to see it any other way except with artifacts- takes ya back to 1974 all over again.
the pioneer release with all the lines, and grain looks good to me.
i'll buy this for extras , and well packaing only.
everyone rants on about OAR, and directors intention with seeing a film, i doubt Hooper wanted it this way.

Yeah, I kind of agree. But aficionados like you and I are going to buy this DVD the day it comes out, relish the extras, watch the new transfer once, and then whenever we want to see the film again, we'll pop in our old discs. Not that bad of a deal!

Icnikkel, you're actually wrong about how the film was intended to look. Just like the original Night of the Living Dead. The films were never intended to look like shit,so to speak.
The "Night" remaster on the Elite SE release is Romero approved and states that is how the film was intended too look.
The same is true for the restoration of Chainsaw and I think Hooper may mention it somewhere on the commentary. If not there,in an interview somewhere.
Anyway there will be more grain present in this print than the last print. Don May Jr who did the transfer says HD catches all the minute details of the print including more visible grain than before just like the film stock it was shot on.
Meanwhile he just cleaned up all the defects in the print like dirt and scratches that were never part of the original film print material.

Oh and for those jumping for joy over a 5.1 mix. That is another area I do feel strongly about(as you know
). Sound is important to a film, and like preserving a films intended look,so is preserving a films original audio. Thus original audio mixes are more important than a remix.
And considering the stereo remix on the current dvd sounds like shit and destroys the films atmosphere. I'm not looking forward to the 5.1 mix which could even further increase the shitty quality. Meanwhile the original mono mix is incredibly effective, disturbing and raw as all get out. That it kicks all kinds of ass as it was intended too.

I think a grainy look is better for this film anyway.I cant see watching TCM in nice HD form all clean like Star Wars. The 'grainy-ness' goes along with the film.
Believe it or not, I do not own one single version of this and I think this one may be the one to get.

Last House on the Left is restored on the M.G.M. dvd and looks better than ever. But it's still an extremely grainy image and some shots are blurry because of the grain(cops talking to parents scene for example).
So I don't think TCM will be improved 'too much' that it ruins the atmosphere/raw feeling of it all. It still may be more colorful and have a more viewable image than ever before, but it may still look somewhat rough, maybe anyway.
Hopefully it's at least not as excessively bright as the Evil Dead remaster, which did ruin the effects in my opinion and made them look faker than ever before.

I have an old VHS version of TCM, from Video treasures, I think. There's a scene in there, that, imo, is scarier than that same scene on my current DVD version. The scene where Sally is tied to the table and leatherface is slowly walking towards her. My VHS version, has more light, and it seems much creepier, seeing his whole face, slowly stalking towards her.

Looks to me as though that "look" isn't wholy derived from banged up stock. What a relief. Can't wait to own this treasure!
Too bad my Texas Chainsaw Road Trip ain't on there.
Wanna go?
