Click the link and see Media: 1. It's the single disk version.

Actually, I think it is the 5 Disc version. Amazon has the HD and BD sets for $27.95, so that price makes sense:

Blade Runner - 5 Disc HD-DVD

That's three lousy dollars more than the 4 Disc SD set:

4 Disc DVD Set .....and THAT......is bullshit.

Couldn't agree more.

And a $55 price tag isn't bad at all for a limited (or otherwise) five disc set anywhere, especially for such a classic film. Some LEs for that price point don't come with nearly as much media as you'll be getting with the briefcase release. I'm as giddy as a little school girl just to be able to own all available cuts and the 3+ hour documentary. It only took 10+ years to get here.

Yeah, the briefcase is a little gimmicky, but hey, I'm over it. Pre-ordered the first day it was up on amazon.

And put me down for a briefcase please.
The crucial difference here is that with the Ape head set, and the Alien head set and whatever [insert movie here]-head set, they offered nothing exclusive outside of novelty packaging. I could easily go out and buy all the Planet of the Apes movies and shows in regular cases and have the exact same content that the Ape head offered.

That ain't the case with Blade Runner briefcase set, which offers an exclusive disc (with, it's important to note, substantial content) that you can't get anywhere else without forking over money to pay for a fake, oversized briefcase filled with some silly toys (or "collectibles" or whatever the hell you want to call it). And I think that is what's pissing off people (at least in my case).

Exactly. All I'm asking for here is to have the same choice as the hi-def crowd:

BR: A) 5 Disc Briefcase B) 5 Disc digipack
HD: A) 5 Disc Briefcase B) 5 Disc digipack
SD: A) 5 Disc Briefcase B) 4 Disc digipack

What's wrong with this picture???

Wow, that almost makes me a converter to HD-DVD/Blu-Ray.

Um...actually, I think the HD price of $26 (whatever, $27. something) is wrong.

You'll note that the Blu-Ray is $70 (discounted from a $100 SRP).

So us SD people are actually getting a good deal with the $55 (I guess).

$28 is the price for the non-briefcase versions of the 5 disc HD or Blu-Ray versions....still, pretty amazing considering that's not much more than what a single disc HD release costs.

I think us folks who still stick with SD are getting punished for not "getting on with the program".

With all those "collectible" junks included in these Briefcase editions, I can just see an endless DVDTalk thread of postings by folks who receive their package with one item or another missing.

Wait...one more question guys.

You know how sometimes the HD-DVDs are combo (playable on both HD and SD players), what if the Blade Runner 5-Disc was the same thing and all of us SD people who don't want to the suitcase could just buy that?

I don't think Warners does combo discs--just Universal.

Exactly.

They don't always do it so it's fair to wait, but most of their new big titles do get it, so here's hoping. We should find out soon enough (when the artwork is announced). And if it really is a combo, hell f-in yeah!

What if it's only the new cut in HD and the other 4 discs are all sd..?
Could happen..
they must know they could charge alot more than this for 5 HD discs!
The WB title "The Departed" lists for $34.95, the HDdvd combo for $39.95 and that's for ONE disc...!

Something is awry. Either the price IS totally wrong and will be more like $59.99 list or I'll bet that most of these discs will be SD, like in The Matrix ultimate collection where all the extras were SD.

and there is no single disc BD or HDdvd version All the specs and different versions are up. BD and HDdvd either get a 5 disc set or 5 disc plus briefcase.

The more I look at the prices for the non-brifcase HD amd BR versions, the more I think you're right. $28 for a five disc HD/BR set??? That's really an unbelieveable price, given what a single disc release in either format is selling for.

Sure, it's not a "new" movie, but a tremendous amount of work went into creating the "Final Cut" and putting together the big documentary and all the special features. Either it's mispriced (possible, given the street date is more than 4 months away), or only one disc is in hi-def.

We shall see in time.

Amazon's preorder page for BLADE RUNNER: COMPLETE COLLECTOR'S EDITION HD (5-DISC) lists the MSRP at $99.98 - it's currently discounted to $69.95 (30% discount)

that's why I noted it, I assume it's the same for the BluRay edition as well - as far as I can tell Amazon doesn't have the Ultimate HiDef editions up for preorder... yet.

I'm not sure what you are trying to say. Both versions of the 5 disc for both formats are up at Amazon fro preorder. With the non-briefcase versions listed as: $39.99 marked down to $27.95 and the briefcase versions as $99.98 marked down to $69.95

Again, those are the Ultimate editions, I don't know why you are renaming them.

Here are the Collectors editions (5 disc, no case)
