DVD release of the year! What else can come close to this? Is there anything out there as comprehensive in the pipeline for the remainder of 2007? Even the just-announced 3-disc Close Encounters of the Third Kind (with 1977, 1980 and 1998 cuts) will seem weak compared to BR's 5-disc set.

Put me down for a briefcase!

The Ultimate Collector’s Edition will be presented in a unique 5-disc digi-package with handle which is a stylish version of Rick Deckard's own briefcase.
So this is a DVD-sized digipack that looks like a briefcase and not an actual "briefcase-sized" briefcase, right?

What's this about the CE3K set? I haven't seen anything on that!

And I'll have the briefcase if I have to sell blood to afford it.

looks like you can, but only on HD DVD or Blu-ray. this is the release that is going to finally get me to jump into a hi-def format.

not exactly. if you look at the pictures over at the digital bits, it appears that the digipak for the movies fits inside the briefcase, along with all the other goodies that come with it. so the briefcase is at least slightly larger than the digipak.

Thanks - I hadn't seen the picture at the digitalbits.com yet.

They have the complete press release which includes this little piece of information about the Final Cut:

Feature Run Time: 157:30
The DC is 117 minutes - so this version will be 40 minutes longer!

Are you sure it's not supposed to read 1:57:30?

Then the Final Cut would have the exact same length as the DC.

It does say 157:30 in the press release but there's no minutes behind that. In other press releases Warner always gives the running time in minutes, but always includes the word 'minutes'.

But you're right - they probably just took the running time of the DC because they didn't have the running time of the Final Cut.

Do we know that yet? I think that all we know so far is that the contents of the 5-disc DVD set will be released on HD discs, but we don't know how it will be packaged (or even how many discs it will be on). They may force the briefcase on those too.

The wording could have been better in the press release.

Simultaneous HD DVD and Blu-Ray versions (each $TBD) of the “Deckard Briefcase” will also be released in numbered, limited quantities. HD DVD and Blu-Ray 5-Disc Digi Packs with collectible slipcase (each $TBD) will include all of the UCE content.
It says HD DVD and Blu-Ray versions of the "Deckard Briefcase" will be released. It also implies that there will be a separate 5-disc digi-pack not in the briefcase. Is just the HD briefcase numbered, or is the regular release numbered too? Damned marketing people.

I must have the HD DVD/Blu-Ray version with the briefcase.

I don't think 40 extra minutes of Blade Runner exist.

Yeah, I'm gonna sound evil for this, but I want the 5-disc set without the briefcase and all the other mumbo jumbo.

Additionally, two of the collections (4- & 5-Disc) will include an entire disc with hours of enhanced content containing featurettes and galleries devoted to over 45 minutes of deleted and alternate scenes recently discovered in deep storage and approved by Ridley Scott

No, not evil -- just sound like a practical guy to me. I have a DVD shelf, not four or five of them. This seems like something for the 4-5 shelf guys. I will take the 4-disc and that will be all I need. I've actually never seen "Blade Runner" and have intentionally held off seeing it until this DVD that has been getting talked about for years. I am a big sci-fi movie fan, love Harrison Ford, and love Ridley Scott. I'm sure I won't be disappointed. Only question is... which version should I watch first?

Quick question about the ultimate set, the specs mention that it comes with a Ridley Scott signatured item. Does anyone know if it will be a fascimle signature like Larry David's in the Seinfeld set or a real one as per Coppola's in the Godfather 25th Anniversary VHS Set that was limited to 5,000. Either way I'll prob grab this with such a low msrp and all those cuts of the film. But, if the Scott autograph is real, I think this set may be far more limited than I anticipated.

Dare I say this is the DVD announcement of the decade? I mean, in retrospect the Spielberg/Lucas stuff is small compared to this beast. Bring this fucker on.

From The Bits: in addition each briefcase will be individually numbered and in limited supply. Included is a lenticular motion film clip from the original feature, miniature origami unicorn figurine, miniature replica spinner car, collector's photographs as well as a signed personal letter from Sir Ridley Scott.

Any idea how many they are releasing??

A HA! So that's why the DVD set took so long to arrive.
