Non-anamorphic = SALE!

MJG87 05-24-06 02:33 AM

I'll most likely be getting these in the long run cause I'm a sucker for SW, and to this day I have only seen the SE Versions. But I Still voted to wait for reviews.

Living Dead 05-24-06 04:13 AM

I originally intended to buy them, but now I will not due to their lackluster and insulting presentation.

Good for you, fight the power!

Brian Shannon 05-24-06 06:55 AM

Absolutely!

awmurray 05-24-06 09:14 AM

I can't... I don't buy non-anamorphic widescreen transfers. Especially when I'm more interesting in the "bonus" features than the main feature itself...

The SE is the main feature... the originals are just a "bonus".

Hammer99 05-24-06 11:30 AM

No. Like others, no anamorphic = no sale, I'll keep my LDs & my Ebay "imports".

paulringodaman 05-24-06 12:15 PM

I'm sticking with my VHS..I can never put a non-anamorphic movie on my widescreen.

mars396 05-24-06 12:19 PM

I also got the e-mail from Lynne Hale

This transfer off of a laserdisc concept concerns me:

will they be simply a 2 hour chapter (i.e. no chapter stops, no scene access) ?

isn't there a pause at the one-hour mark where the laserdisc would get flipped ?

Actually, I believe she said Laserdisc masters, not straight LD to DVD port.

Puzznic 05-24-06 12:51 PM

The only reason I would consider getting them is because I don't have any of the other releases. If they were done right i would have paid full price but with the way that they are I will wait until they are part of some 3 for $20 or $25 sale sometime down the road. If that never happens then I guess I will just never get them.

:rotfl:

could you imagine??

fyi, though, laserdiscs had chapters.

Disc-Flipper 05-24-06 02:57 PM

These release are a bit too soon after last December's re-release of the set with the new packaging minus the bonus disc.

The Monkees 05-24-06 04:56 PM

I have the laserdiscs of the original movies, but will buy them again so I don't have to keep flipping them over every 30 minutes or so.

Too bad Lucas can't release good versions of these....yet

Give it time, in like 2 years he'll release them again with some other crap that will make them "better"

Yes.

While I'm disappointed that they won't be anamorphic, I don't have the Laserdisc versions and haven't seen them in their original presentation since I was 9 (1988).

I don't own a widescreen TV (27") so I suppose it will not affect me that much.

I believe Lucas' definitive vision of the films are the special editions, so I don't blame him for giving the special editions the full job. At least we will be able to have the theatrical versions in a better shape than we ever were able to before. Much better than having nothing at all.

Also another reason I'm buying them is because I have a feeling it will be the last time the originals will come in a home video format. I bet the versions that will be released in blu-ray or HD-DVD will be only the 2004 Special Editions.

Red Dog 05-31-06 02:56 PM

Fuck that. I just close my eyes when Greedo shoots in the SE version.

Breakfast with Girls 05-31-06 04:39 PM

I don't know. Maybe.

historyavenger 05-31-06 04:54 PM

yes!

so i can see what all the hoopla is about with the originals.

basaro 05-31-06 05:11 PM

Non anamorphic = no FUCKING sale. I already have the THX LD transfers of these. What's to gain from getting this? Nothing.

RoboDad 05-31-06 05:29 PM

Is it a shame that they won't be anamorphic? Yes.

Is it enough of a travesty to keep me from buying them? Nope. They'll still look better on my widescreen TV than any bootleg copy could.

FRwL 05-31-06 08:57 PM

I wonder if most of these people that aren't going to buy it have widescreen tvs. It won't make a difference either way anamorphic or not for one that doesn't have such a tv.

exharrison 05-31-06 09:50 PM

^Its also an important consideration if you plan on buying one soon. If I buy the release this year, I don't plan on buying another one for a good number of years. I'll probably get a widescreen tv well before then.
Plus, I'm sure that even past that it is a case of principle for some.

Most likely:
I'll buy the release this year. Then in two years I'll probably buy WS tv. And eventually, I'll probably get suckered into buying the whole set again. But not just solely for an upgrade from dvd to hddvd. I'm sure they'll have some other feature that will get me to cave.

talemyn 06-01-06 01:20 AM

Wasn't planning on buying them anyway . . . non-anomorphic changes nothing.
