I never bought the first DVD set, the new set will be the only ones I will buy. If there's any HD-DVD or BluRay set in the future, forget it.
I'm a dork, and a completist. I own eps. 1,2, and 3 and I've only ever watched them once, with the commentary track...the special editions, I can only barely stand to watch, too many "changes" for my taste. I'd rather have the old-school version is what ever form I can, and least it'll be letterboxed (hopefully).
If the commentaries are new (to me. Even if they're from the laserdisc), then yes. If not, then no. So I am waiting for the reviews.
I never bought the 2004 editions so I will probably pick this up, regardless of the non-anamorphic. If in the future they release anamorphic versions of the OT I might have to double dip.
I don't own any on DVD, so I'll probably pick them up.
gonna wait for reviews. See if its non anamorphic or not.
You mean the feature free, non-anamorphic Star Wars set? Nope.
Anamorphic = Yes
Non-Anamorphic = No Hey George, is this that hard to understand? |
no, if they truly are non-anamorphic, i'll stick with my definitive collection laserdiscs. i don't love these movies the way i used to. something's changed. i don't look at them the same way.
I voted 3, it's still to early to decide, I want to see the full-list of features. In all likely-hood, no... not until I can get them for $5 each or so.
I love Star Wars, but the fact is, if it isnt Anamorphic, then I'm not buying it...I voted 3 just for the fact that I'm holding out a little hope that it will be anamorphic but I think it will be in vain.
Since I've never owned a LD player and I'm a *big* fan of the *real* Star Wars movies (the ones initially released in 1977, 1980, and 1983) I'll be purchasing these discs.
But if they really are put out in just non-anamorphic fashion then I won't be purchasing any additional Star Wars related movies, games, or merchandise for the rest of my life. A non-anamorphic release of the "Original" Star Wars movies would have been acceptable in 1998 (and would also have made good business sense since it would have blunted the pirates and assuaged the fans all without compromising a future release of the SE's); but a non-anamorphic release of *any* Widescreen movie in 2006 is just plain lame! Lucas should feel totally ashamed to be treating his loyal fans this way. (Uh ... Sorry I strayed ... I voted that I *would* purchase these discs; but with reservations ...) |
I voted no, as I'm quite happy with the 2004 versions.
But, a good deal would probably get me to buy this as a curiosity. |
No...I will live with the SEs and see what happens for the Star Wars 30th anniversary coming up next year...

[QUOTE=Joseph B]
Lucas should feel totally ashamed to be treating his loyal fans this way. The sad thing is we aren't even looked upon as loyal fans anymore by Lucas and the new PT crowd. Even though we love Episodes 4-6 more than anything in the movie world, we have to love everything by Lucas, we can't criticize any movie after ROTJ, and we are just a bunch of people who just love the movies because of nostalgia. It would be like Spielberg putting out a crappy DVD set of Jaws, because his fans didn't like Hook, Always, and 1941. He could say, "The only reason you like that mechanical shark is because of nostalgia, why wouldn't you want a CG Shark to get with the times! |
I don't see a point myself. I watch my movies on a 16:9 projector...and I already have the 3 copies of the film on LD and the 2004 dvds. If I want to watch the original trilogy I will just pop in the LD's...the PCM sound blows DD 2.0 out of the water anyway.
Nope.
Another vote on the NO ANAMORPHIC = NO SALE pile.
I honestly thought GL was going to finally get some cash from me in the 21st century. Silly me. |
If the O-OT had been given the TLC that the 2004 editions had been given, I might have considered. Otherwise, I'm content with the releases I have now.
If they are non-anamophic, no way I'm buying them. I was looking forward to these discs but I'm not paying for the very best technology 1993 has to offer in 2006.
I'm not going to be buying these.
I'm very unhappy about them being non-anamorphic, but I might pick up just Star Wars if the reviews are decent, assuming they're still available individually. I'd pick it up for sure if they fix the audio on the 2004 version.
Waiting for the review. I already have the Definitive LD collection.
No way, at least not buying them new on release day. I love the originals, but I can't completely support such a half-hearted attempt, especially when thinking of "what could have been". I'd still consider renting them (or picking them up used at a later date), but there's no way I'd throw down $20 per disc for obvious reasons. :down:
