I wonder if my library will have them. I'd borrow them to see Han shoot first again, but that is about it.

I can appreciate that not everyone has a laserdisc player to fall back on, and of course VHS is hardly anything approaching high quality; but "better than bootleg" is not something that should be used to describe Lucasfilm release, esp that of a trilogy that redefined cinema-going, and defined an entire generation and continues to influence people of all ages to this day. I do have the 2004 DVDs because I honestly never expected to see the originals. When these were announced, I had no inkling that they would consider anything less than a stellar quality release. I have no problem waiting for them to do it right. |

Some fanatics are making it sound like because these discs are not anamorphic, that they are worse than or as good as VHS. (not the exact words, but that's the impression they give) These DVD discs were created from the same MASTER that was used to create the laserdisc... these DVDs were not created FROM the laserdiscs themselves. BIG DIFFERENCE. People can believe what they want. And I understand the need for some to use hypercriticism as an attempt to demonstrate their "discernment of quality". But these O-OT discs are very good. I just feel bad for those who (would normally enjoy these O-OT discs) being scared off by those hypercritics. |
Just to make sure...all the grain and dirt (especially in the beginning of ANH on Tatooine) that is littered in the original's release disc is normal, correct?

I've been seeing the commercials for this release, and I do get a sort of "warm fuzzy" seeing those kids expressing their enjoyment of the saga*, and the dad being happy he could share these films with his children. I just can't get over how the tiniest bit of effort could have made everyone happy. *except the racist little girl who wants to subjugate a sentient species to the role of a mere pet. |

Man, I must have been in a cave or compeltely forgot about these. I found a couple of used copies relatively cheap. When I put them in I was actually disgusted. What is the reason for giving me this garbage other then the fact that they want to milk me for more $$ when they decide to encode them correctly. I did not even realize that studios were even releasing movies in a 4X3 letterbox. Needless to say I was disgusted with the whole thing and returned them. Lucas can ki$$ my a$$.
What a joke. |

What a joke. I mean, you didn't even vote with your pocket book with this one...You felt the need to resurrect an old thread to tell us you bought a DVD set you decided you were unhappy with and returned it? Talk about jokes. |
Calhoun, I don't care how you look at it, Lucas is a money-hungry whore. PERIOD. He's lived off of one trilogy his entire life. Talk about a joke, he's the true joke.

And there are MANY people out there who do what they do to make money. Some just do it better than others. Why make Lucas a target for such hatred because you didn't like a DVD set? (not YOU you, just "you" in general.) And managing to make a living, run a business that contributes to countless movies, gives jobs to people all pretty much from the basis of just six movies....well, I guess I don't see that as being a whore, I see that as being SMART. That and I think others are just jealous because they haven't been able to do the same. |

That's what happens when you make uninformed purchases.
I skipped this set, just like I do any non-anamorphic release. |

Nothing wrong with wanting to get paid for your work. |
