I originally voted no and changed my mind over the summer. I will be buying these soon.

Al Padrino 09-12-06 08:52 PM

I may pick them up if I ever see them at a Gamestop during a B2G1 Free sale. Otherwise, not likely. I'm a fan of the OT, but I've got the 2004 set and honestly, that'll do for now. I know that's not how purists feel, but there are so many other movies and shows I still want on DVD that double-dipping on these titles right now doesn't make sense.

BuckNaked2k 09-12-06 10:25 PM

Voted no, sticking to it: Non-Anamorphic is an insult in 2006.

Don't like the SE's, don't acknowledge the prequels.

Will buy the O-OT's in a heartbeat if they are ever given the release they deserve.

Will keep those ones I got on eBay -wink-

Ditto. Just want to relive what all the fuss was about back in '77.

xage 09-12-06 11:16 PM

Definitely YES! I just bought it!

Since I restrain myself not getting the original trilogy in DVD since 2004. This is worth a wait! and Im not sourgrapin since I can afford things like this.

mattgoble 09-13-06 07:07 AM

No, due to the non-anamorphicness!

ShaunoftheDead 09-13-06 09:26 AM

i got them for one simple reason...now, i have a choice.

Wick 09-13-06 02:42 PM

I bought the tin. I'm a completist and I prefer the Original Versions.

MovieBuff482 09-13-06 03:42 PM

I unquestionably buy whatever the director intends me to see and watch it without adding my own opinions.

purplechoe 09-13-06 03:49 PM

No.

RoboDad 09-13-06 04:18 PM

Thay aren't perfect, but it's nice to have real copies of the OUT available. And the tin is very well done. Also, I think the photo montage covers that recreate the original artwork are also pretty classy.

mzupeman2 09-13-06 05:36 PM

I'm not going to be buying this. I'm not really too against the newer versions of the films, and I already own those. I would probably buy these as long as the originals were anamorphic but they're not, so I'll leave it be for now. They'll most likely be released in anamorphic in the future.

Chrisedge 09-13-06 05:45 PM

I thought I was going to, but I am not. I will wait until they are properly released. Til then 2004 versions will have to work.

Plus the fact that the 2004 versions are coming to TV in HD, means I would most likely watch those over any other version anyways.

Well, why did they choose to release them non-anamorphic? These must be the dvds that fans should have seen at the launch of dvd back in 1996-1997. All this smells funny and I agree that they must be holding the theatrical anamorphic transfers hostage to one day release and take even more dollars from fans. My guess is that we will see anamorphic versions be released seperately and in a box set together one day. One thing I have learned about Star Wars is that they make fans wait, and wait and wait. If they can make more $$$, they will.

Bastards.

My guess is that we will NEVER see these in anamorphic. In fact Ill go one further and say that we will never see these versions ever again. At least not in George Lucas's lifetime. So I will be buying these as its the last time we get them in any format. Most of the people my age(40) and a little younger and older are all that really care about the "OUT" versions anyway. Most of the 35 and under crowd like the changes and the new films.

Oh I hope you are right -pray- I would buy them in a second if that ever happened.

No. I'm not rebuying SW until it's in HD. I'm perfectly happy with the dvd editions I already own.

riley_dude 09-13-06 11:02 PM

I only bought Star Wars because of the changes made to it that I HATED!
The print is not pristine but it beats my video tape copy.

I wonder if that's really true. I'm 22 and have loved Star Wars since I could remember, and I far prefer the O-OT. The SE's are the first time I saw the films in a theater, and that was great, but I did manage to see A New Hope on film in college and it was a far more magical experience in my mind.

MartinBlank 09-14-06 12:37 AM

I caved and picked them up at walmart tonight...got free comics!

Josh-da-man 09-14-06 03:32 AM

I might have to pick these up at Wal-Mart.

Despite claiming I wouldn't buy the "Special Editions," I picked up a copy of the four-disc boxed set at a used bookstore. (Since I used store credit, I basically got it free, so I didn't technically buy it.)

But those graphic novels from Wal-Mart just might push me over the edge. I fondly remember poring over the ESB one when I was a kid. (This was back before DVD and VHS, so the comics and the story books were all we had to relive the movies outside of a theater.)

I can then get rid of my previous DVDs, keep the documentary fourth disc, and then have all six films match up with gold logos.

Thunderball 09-14-06 05:34 AM

Did not buy it, refuse to buy it.

The transfer is the same as the Laserdisc > DVD bootlegs that are already floating everywhere.
The audio maybe totally in sync, but I'm not psending $50 to fix 10 minutes of problems.

I have a 16x9 HDTV. I want anamorphic goddamnit.

zombiezilla 09-14-06 06:00 AM

I think I voted "yes" originally, but changed my mind. Screw the non-anamorphic crap. And I don't even have a widescreen TV. I just want to be ready when I get one. These would just have to be replaced later (by anamorphic versions, if/when available).

Fincher Fan 09-14-06 06:24 AM

I'm waiting for the eventual boxset. I don't have any of the Star Wars films on DVD so I can wait to see what they do next year.

Quality is very subjective thing to measure. But I've compared my bootlegs to the official release and these discs are noticeably better than the bootlegs... and that seems to be the consensus of others who have done a similar comparison.
