Fox Film Noir BOOMERANG cancelled?
Does anyone know what happened? Apparently some rights issues? How many folks are now one dvd short because they pre-ordered this on the Buy 2 get 1 free sales at DDD & Digital Eyes/Dvd Planet?

I checked on DDD and saw they had changed the release date on the 3 noir's including Boomerang from 5/23 to 6/6.

DDD now has Boomerang as a backorder while the other two are still listed as pre-orders. I havent seen any other etailer change the status of the release date, yet.

I placed a big order at digitaleyes (dvdplanet) for 12 Fox Noirs on the buy 2 get 1 free deal. I also used a $7 off $75 coupon. Three of them were the upcoming 6/6/06 releases. They charged me for 7 of the 9 they shipped (@ $9.95 per). Two of the 3 not shipped yet were "Free" ones, including Boomerang. So this cancellation messed things up on this order. I called today, immediately got through to a very nice lady who helped me straighten this out. I ended up just canceling the preorders and they will refund me the price of one DVD so I get my other Free one. Here was the order status:
Qty Description Order Date Order No. Status
1 Boomerang! (1947) 05/03/06 xxxxxxx No Longer Available!!!
1 House of Strangers (1949) 05/03/06 xxxxxxx 06/06/06
1 I Wake Up Screaming (1941) 05/03/06 xxxxxxx 06/06/06

I too ordered Boomerang from dvdplanet during their sale. The status over the weekend had been showing NO LONGER AVAILABLE. Today it was changed to In Stock (Ships in 24-48 hours). I called to verify and the rep said the dvd was in stock and would ship within 48 hours. Hope this is true

DeepDiscountDVD is showing the title on backorder in my order status and it's not even coming up when I just do a regular search for it. DVDAficionado is also showing this as "RELEASE CANCELLED".

"Boomerang" was also part of my B2G1F order with DDD. I sent them an e-mail asking about it. Their reply (received on 5-22):
"As per our records the item DVD : BOOMERANG is currently available in stock and will ship shortly. You will also receive an email notification when the item ships out of our warehouse. "
I guess I'll wait and see what happens from here.

That would be good if it has been cancelled or delayed and they got some in and will ship them. I just hope they were not refering to the Eddie Murphy one.

I haven't talked to any customer service people, but I saw a pending charge from DDDVD on my back account for $9.98. My only guess is maybe they are charging for one movie while sending the other two Fox film noirs, which would be pretty classy of them. Granted, I'd rather have BOOMERANG, and if they did indeed get a small amount they are sending out and I'm not one, I'll be all indignant and stuff--but I tend to think the above theory that the rep may have been talking about the Eddie Murphy movie is highly possible. Anybody recall the confusion over the Chen Kaige and Lukas Moodyson films TOGETHER a couple of years ago? Unless you have the person on the phone confirming you are talking about the same thing, it's hopeless.

At foxstore.com Fox is still showing it as a pre-order(6/6/06 release). With nothing to lose, I ordered it using a coupon code from the DVD Bargain Forum.($6.98 Total)

At least I know it's NOT the Eddie Murphy movie.

just got off the phone with dvdplanet. Seems to be some major confusion. He wasn't sure if the title has been truly cancelled or not. So they are waiting - if it has just been delayed, then that is one thing. But if it really has been cancelled, then that puts a real kink into the b2g1f sales they have made.

I emailed DDD about it and this is the response I got:
As per our records the item DVD : BOOMERANG is not available for sale or has been discontinued. However you may call customer service at 1-800-264-5076 and replace the item with any other item available in the Buy 2 Get 1 Free list.
I'm going to call tomorrow and replace it with another movie I wanted to pick up during the sale.

This B2G1 offer was the first time I've seen DDD include preorders in a sale. Unfortunately with this SNAFU, I think it'll be the last.
Oh well, it's really not too much of a problem, unless Boomerang was your freebie.

If this ends up cancelled, since I already got my free disk, I guess it will be buy one get one free, so an even better deal. I'd rather have the disk, that's why I ordered it, but financially I'm not out anything if it's cancelled.

Boomerang: Fox Film Noir has been spotted at Borders stores in advance of street date according to people at the criterionforum.org.
