That review doesn't mention the length of the doco so I guess we can assume it is the whole thing.

According to DVD Review, Universal Horror is a "feature-length documentary", so looks like it's the whole docu, which is great news.

Guess I will get these now. I'm tempted to wait and see if they do a HD DVD release, but I have bought these movies multiple times so yet another HD DVD purchase won't be a big deal.

Was in Best Buy today and picked up the Boris Karloff "Franchise Collection" set from Universal. They only had 1 copy. It was $24.99, which is a bit higher than Amazon, but I wanted it right away. They had 2 copies of the Inner Sanctum Mysteries "Franchise Collection", which is another set I want. I'm liking these Universal sets quite a bit. These will come in handy for the October movie contest...

I've been watching my 100 Years of Horror Documentary DVDs lately so I'm beginning to start liking the Universal Horror and all that alot more. Should I get these two or the legacy collections of Dracula and Frankenstein?

All of them, if for no other reason than Bride Of Frankenstein isn't currently available outside of the Frankenstein Legacy Collection

That Beaver comparison didn't list a runtime for the 'Universal Horror' extra and referred to it as a featurette. Can anybody who actually has it confirm the runtime for me?

Love those captures of Lugosi - he was a true one-of-a-kind.
The picture looks much sharper, and the blacks look really black, not just dark. I wasn't going to buy this (this'll be my third purchase of this film), but the vastly improved picture and extras are too tempting to resist.

#4 for me....i had the original stand alone, the brazilian coffin box set, the legacy collection and now this...

I would get the Legacy collections first (they have everything you really need) and then later try to pick up these new ones for a bit less. I guess it depends on how important the extras are to you right off.

Also, for those considering the plunge to HD DVD, both Dracula and Frankenstein were mentioned by Universal as eventual releases. Nothing has been announced yet, but it wouldn't shock me to see these in a few months.

I'm probably one of the few people who bought the original Dracula release only to see the Spanish Version. I can't stand the Lugosi version and am mystified why people hold it in such high regard. Yes, Lugosi has incredible charisma and this film rightly made him a star, but I feel that the film itself is boring, creaky with unimaginative direction, music, cinematography and costumes - all of which I think the Spanish version runs rings around the US version. if the Spanish version had a better Dracula I wouldn't even watch the Lugosi version ever. DVDBeaver says (and shows) that the Spanish version is slightly cleaned up - I may get the new disc just for that. THe Spanish version is one of my favorite vampire/horror films of all time. I think the guy who played Reinfield should have gotten an academy award!!

I went into BB yesterday to grab this but no surprise...they had none and never got any in to begin with. My local BB is going to shit and the last 6 months have proved it. I support them no longer.

Just as well. I went down to Walfart where I was sure I would not find it....but got the one copy for 19.99.

i saw both at Best Buy but couldn't stoumach the 24.99 tag...factore tag in and that runs 55 bucks for both...40 online just seems the better way to go (and still a bit pricy)

I picked up the Dracula: 75th Ann. set today. I was going to get the Frankenstein set as well, but talked myself out of it. Dracula's image quality is better than the previous releases, as shown by the screen caps. But I'm not so sure how much better this version of Frankenstein is compared to the Legacy Collection set. It has always had a very good transfer, unlike Dracula. Unless there's a substantial difference in pic quality, I think I'll hold off on the 75th Ann. of Frank. I'm glad both contain the Universal horror doc, which was the other main reason to double up on the Dracula set.

best prices b&m for the Dracula and frankenstein?

I planned to follow this route since only Dracula got a major upgrade, but I caved in on the new extras in the Frankenstein set. I am too big of a fan of these films to pass on it and basically paid $18.99 for a new doc and new commentary since the Universal Horror feature is on both.

Does anyone have screen shots comparing Frankenstein's transfer with the previous release?

Yeah, I'll probably cave in and get the Frank set too. I love Universal horror! I think there was small mention that these 2 would also appear on HD DVD, but that doesn't look like it's going to be the case, at least for now.
