Because a higher price for something that's available is better than a lower price for something that isn't available.

After several month of release, I wouldn't be surprised the set goes for 90 dollars on Ebay.

Just a heads up: if you pre-order it at DVD Planet and use one of the coupons, the set will be just $129.97.

I'm not exactly clear...this new boxset has all the DVDs from the individual seasons + an exclusive bonus dvd? Or, is the content different.

Personally, I don't care about the box so I hope to just pick up season 5.

The Box set includes all the episode/features from the five individual releases as well as an extra disc with all new bonus features (think the 'buffy' box, same deal)

I got mine today at Borders for $99 with my 30% off, 10% personal day, and $35 holiday savings.

After seeing pictures of it online I was surprised to see how very tiny it was. It's amazing how they were able to cram five seaons in these tiny books. Like some have mentioned though, the books containing the dvds are scratch city. Another thing that kinda sucks is that the episode booklets and descriptions are gone from this set and the book of secrets is more style over substance.

Anyways, it is a very good blind buy for anyone who hasn't watched or purchased the older seasons. From what I read in the dvdtalk review, you can enroll in Buena Vista's dvd registration or whatever it is to I guess replace the dvds if they ever get damaged.

while i won't be getting this, i would be very interested to see if the book that's included actually sheds any light on some of the questions of the series.

As much as I love the way that box looks, I think Im going to have the stick with the cheaper / less scratchtastic way and just pick up Season 5.

I recieved mine yesterday from Amazon. Nice set. I did not have any discs that were scratched as mentioned by some. I loaded them all into one of my Sony disc changers, and they were all in fine shape.
happy holidays y'all-

I'm with ENDContra. Gorgeous boxset but the packaging used for the individual seasons is just not good enough. Discs will pick up loads of hairline scratches when taking them out and putting them back in the sleeves. I realise it was probably a size issue but couldn't they have used something like those slim double cd cases instead?

You do realize that hairline scratches do not affect playback whatsoever?

Even if you had major scratches on the disc, the information on a disc is layered closer to the top of a disc than the bottom, so even if you have a ding in the plastic on the bottom, it won't really affect playback as you might if you had the same ding on the top.

I keep good care of all my own discs, but I've rented plenty of dvds that were scratched to hell, certainly more scratched that this Alias packaging would cause, and they've all played flawlessly.

I got this the other day and was dismayed to see the only disc to be PROPERLY housed so that it wouldn't get damaged with use is the bonus features disc. But I think if you gingerly remove and replace the discs you should be OK. I did notice that some of the dvds had fingerprints on them already. When I was younger I worked in a CD packaging plant and we had to wear surgical gloves when handling CDs, I wonder why this didn't happen with this set?

Put me down as one impressed w/ the packaging but not the disks. EVERY SINGLE ONE, including the "hidden" feature disk (which makes me think it's not just the packaging that was the problem), looked like it was a used disk, in fact I've picked up used DVDs that have looked better than some of these... various scratches, blemishes and on some what looks like fingerprints

My set was perfect. I did a spot check of every dvd and there really wasn't really anything that stood out as being extremely messed up. I watched the entire first season in 2 days no less and it was perfect. I guess I was just a lucky one.

Mine isn't bad, but the worse I have seen though when buying new dvds. Finger prints and small scratches. Discs play fine though and have watched half of season 1.

Aside from the disk sleeves, this is the best packaging I've seen. But every single one of the 29 discs had some sort of scratch or scuff mark on it (only the bonus disc escaped unscathed). So far they seem to play fine, but it was really annoying.
I got a 32 disc sleeve-thing on clearance and transfered all the discs to it so I won't have to risk further scratching by the cardboard.
