Pretty sure my first one watched was the first one I purchased....Jason X.
|
The Long Kiss Goodnight, followed by Mars Attacks...
those were the 1st 2 DVDs I bought way back when. |
American Pie, the R-rated version. ha.
|
I got my player for X-mas 1999 but i had it set up a few weeks before that. I had bought "The Matrix" some weeks before getting my player and i regualrly showed off some choice scenes on it before i technically "got it".
The first actual movie i sat and watched from beginning to end was "American Pie: Unrated Version". I remember being quite amazed that i was sitting watching this movie in my home probably 6 months after i had seen in in the theater. |

And someone else recalled the General's Daughter being his first DVD viewed in 1998. However, it also came out (theatrically) in 1999. |
Cast Away - I was hooked on dvd after that.
|
I think my first one was Matrix also. Came out a few days before my birthday so got that with my dvd drive.

Forces of Nature

I watched The Cell with Jlo followed by The (original) Blues Brothers.
|
Blade Runner on my friend's dvd-player the day they first came out.
We thought it looked so amazing at the time, and now BR is considered to have one of the worst transfers out there. |
Imax: Antartica or Imax: Tropical Rainforsest in March 1997... I can't remember which one I watch all the way through at the Home THeater Store I worked at the first day they were available. (Ah... The joys of being an independent store.)
All of our initial fears about digital compression, they were horrible. Unfortunately, the next film we ended up watching was Twister, another disaster. Fortunately Sony's stuff shipped sometime in April and proved the format could actually work. fitprod |
Face/Off my first DVD purchased, I saw it on my computer.
|
Can't remember, but it wasn't a blockbuster one though
|
Ah, I remeber it well. I had just gotten my first DVD player the night before, and the next day we had a huge blizzard - there by effectively making it impossible to do pretty much anything but stay home and break in the new unit watching movies all day.
First up was The Matrix, and it was also the first time I saw it, having not gotten the chance to see it in the theaters. Next up was Mallrats (which was the first DVD owned), followed by The Beatles-Yellow Submarine. |
No idea. It was at a friends some time back in 97.
Though, the first title of my own that I watched was Ghost in the Shell on my PC some time in late 98 I believe. Still have the same PC running strong as ever though I've since upgraded and own three copies of GITs .. with one more to get. Shit, maybe I should stop with the DVDs and upgrade my PC ... |
My first DVD to buy...and watch was "The Wizard of Oz" :rock2:
|
End of Days, back in 2000... bought it when I bought my first player for the low low price of $279.
|
First one I purchased in 1998, Austin Powers.
|
Final Destination

Blade Runner, on my PC through a Creative DVD decoder card (no software players back then) outputing to some shitty 44" tv from like a zillion foot s-video cable running from upstairs to downstairs in my parents house.
|
"Pink Floyd - The Wall" on my brother's laptop that he got from work. I remember wondering why it looked so much better on the computer than it did on the TV I hooked up to the computer. haha. Sadly, I haven't watched that DVD since getting my HDTV last year... maybe I'll pop that in this weekend.
