It's really nice, it is a digipack tri fold, and the booklet is stuck in there. There is also a slipcover over that in the new style, not Walk the Line style where it slips in from the side.

For some reason I think it's gonna be like Kong but I sure hope I'm wrong.

Why are no online retailers taking preorders for this yet? It's coming out in less than 4 weeks. I mean, come on.

Ouch. I hope that's not Tower's set price.

I've got the "Kong slipcover" vibe as well. Then again, that was done with knowledge that a super edition of Kong is tentatively in the works. A better edition probably won't surface for Munich.

Is this the first Spielberg movie in forever without a DTS track?

If so, that's bad, because Munich's sound was amazing.

Wow, rock on. That's a nice set, but I'm surprised about the lack of dts as well.

EDIT: http://www.dvdactive.com/news/releases/munich.html
Pictures are up on DVD Active as well. Took a close look at center disc - looks like no dts.

Maybe the 2 hour and 44 minute running time caused them to leave off DTS.

Amazon finally has this up for pre-order. Weird about the delay, though, as it is coming out in just a few weeks now.

Excellent cover art...hope the special features make the two-disc price worth it.

As a side note, I find it unfortunate that Spielberg has come to love this "multiple featurette" form of special features. They're okay, but are often fluffy, talking head pieces with a few behind the scenes shots (apologies if War of the Worlds wasn't like this...I'm referring to Minority Report, Catch Me If You Can, Saving Private Ryan, etc.). While I don't expect commentaries, some deleted scenes, perhaps? A licensed documentary about the Munich event itself (as the film only touches on it, really)? And then, why not a commentary? Not with Spielberg, maybe, but I'm sure Tony Kushner would have something interesting to say....

This is a result of payment. The various guilds and unions require more pay for something considered feature-length so the people like Laurent Bouzereau (who's done most of the Spielberg DVD's) that used to do tons of feature-length docs are all pretty much required to break them up. There was a brief effort to try to get around this by giving a bunch of shorter featurettes a "play all" option (like on the "Hannibal" DVD) but the powers that be caught on and still considered that "feature-length" so that's why we don't see too many feature-length docs anymore. They obviously aren't completely extinct but you usually only see them on really high-profile, iconic stuff like the "Star Wars" trilogy and "King Kong".

I haven't actually read if LB is doing the "Munich" supplements but if he is (which I'd be willing to bet) you can expect more of the same. I actually like his stuff and I think he's one of the best DVD producers out there.

While I don't expect commentaries, some deleted scenes, perhaps?
Spielberg is definitely against commentaries and he seems to be against deleted scenes for the most part. "Jaws", "Close Encounters" and "The Lost World" have them and I also believe some "E.T." deleted scenes were available as a DVD-ROM supplement but when you look at his overall filmography on DVD the films that DON'T have deleted scenes outweigh the ones that do by a great deal.

A licensed documentary about the Munich event itself (as the film only touches on it, really)?
There are some available seperately but I figure putting one on the "Munich" DVD probably wouldn't go over too well considering all the criticism of the film's historical accuracy. Spielberg maintained from the beginning that "Munich" was merely inspired by true events but pointing out the differences probably wouldn't have any positive benefit on the film itself.

And then, why not a commentary? Not with Spielberg, maybe, but I'm sure Tony Kushner would have something interesting to say....
Spielberg doesn't want commentaries on his films, period. It doesn't matter if it's him doing it or someone else. Look at the "Indiana Jones" films: you know George Lucas would have been willing to do them, he did them for every "Star Wars" film and "THX-1138" but they Indy movies are on DVD with no commentary, undoubtedly at Spielberg's insistence.

I knew this, but still, if Spielberg wanted a "feature length documentary," you'd think he could have his way. Therefore, he at least doesn't mind the featurette format, which is a shame. Or, more likely, he probably leaves it all up to Bouzereau.

He used to be one of the absolute best, agreed. But since DVDs and special features have grown and others have come along and done far more interesting things, he's become almost irrelevant and has turned out pale imitations of what he used to do (in my opinion, of course).

I also knew this. It seems to be an odd stance: deleted scenes sometimes, but none at others. I wonder what his reasoning is (or whomever makes the decision's reasoning)....

I suppose that's true, but it would still be a nice inclusion. However, for those too young to have witnessed the actual event yet still enjoyed the film, it would be good to have some context. Again, in my opinion, I think a documentary would be a good supplement for this release. But then, I'm not a DVD producer.

I'm certainly aware of Spielberg's no commentary policy, and I've often rolled my eyes at people wanting them, anyway...but now I guess I have to be hypocritical and imagine a world where he at least lets others speak about the films. But I don't begrudge him this decision; if that's how he feels, then so be it.

Just heard a rumor that the 2-Disc has been cancelled. Anyone else heard about this?

Apparently, Axel Music cancelled someoneīs order saying the studio had pulled the 2-Disc from its release.

Amazon.com still has the 2-disc available for pre-order with a 5/9 release date.

please don't tell me we're going to go through the whole "cancelled 2-disk" thing again. We had this with Jarhead and i think with Cinderella Man.

From: Right now, my location is DVDTalk, but then again, you should already know that, shouldn't you?
I highly doubt this has been cancelled...from A.I. on, we've been provided a 2-disc option for each new Spielberg release; I doubt this will be any different. I'm beginning to think these rumors are just grassroots attempts to get panicked consumers to order the 2-disc in greater quantities than would normally be expected...

I do believe though that it will be a limited release like Jarhead and Cinderella Man but we shall see...

Many retailers has pulled the 2-Disc Edition from their website. Iīm not saying it has been cancelled it could be itīs just delayed for some reason. Only time will tell.

I don't know about anyone else, but other than liking this film above all others last year, I found its final assasination (the young woman's) to be the most disturbing death sequence in memory. The victim's reaction to her impending doom is to go to her cat, and sit down in a chair. It was so unexpected and poignant that it felt absolutely real.

I wonder how long it will be until a HD-DVD release? I want this, but I don't want to repurchase it a couple of months from now when it comes out in HD.
