i havent watched my 60th anniv. edition in a long time, there's nothing wrong with the transfer or anything is there that an upgrade would be necessary?

Tough to imagine what could be added. I thought the transfer was great and the documentary that was included was superb. Covered just about every aspect of the film and made me love it even more.

Dumbo has always been uncut. Some idiots tried to spread a rumor that footage was cut after the 1941 release when the original DVD came out.

I am curious why they are releasing Dumbo again? I can understand if the 60th Anniversity is out of print but it is not....I am not sure which to get but if both have different extras, I will be getting both but if both have the same extras but the special edition has a new transfer and DTS, I will be getting the special edition but how is the transfer on the 60th Anniversity?

Yeah, some idiot named Glenn Erickson (aka DVD Savant). I'm sorry, but I'll take his word on this matter over yours any day of the week: "You might not be aware that several minutes were snipped from DUMBO so long ago that nobody remembers them. In a very fluid movie, you'll note quite a number of sudden fade outs and fades-ins right in the middle of music cues. Disney = CONTROL FREAKS. They don't cotton to competition, and they are lousy sports. And they have Zero appreciation for their own history, unless it means money in their pockets. However, these don’t prove anything. Was Dumbo butchered from its original length? Maybe, but at this point, I consider Disney innocent until proven guilty. I’ve consulted plenty of sources that make no mention of the change, and if one considers the magnitude of the alleged alteration, this would be a bizarre oversight by all those people. Even documentation of a longer running time would show something, but everyone states the movie lasted 63 and a half minutes. As such, right now I lean to the side that feels Dumbo wasn’t edited. One claim that the film was cut that comes based on decades-old memories doesn’t do much for me since I can find no other verification of the changes. These alterations may well have occurred, but until I discover more compelling evidence, I’ll stick with the belief that the DVD presents the original, unedited film. http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0033563/trivia Walt Disney's distributor, RKO Radio Pictures, had qualms about releasing this 64-minute feature as a major motion picture. They tried to persuade Disney to either cut it to short-subject length, extend it to at least 70 minutes, or have it released as a B picture. Disney stood his ground, and the film was released as an A picture as Disney intended. Also, the imdb doesn't even list the additional crow scenes in its "alternate versions" link for the film. |

Keep in mind, Disney does have a track record for editing much of their work, such as Fantasia, 3 Little Pigs and many others - so this isn't too far out of left field for them - also, lets not forget a little film called Song of the South...

Strong disagreement - while SOTS may have not been "edited", per se, the fact that Disney refuses to acknwoledge its existence, in order to "not offend", speaks to the same issue that leads them to cut material in the first place. So there's little, if any, difference.
