I agree with you, the new version screename caps are hard to see while the 60th Anniversity is brighter and easy to see...

I also think that the colors look much better in the old version. I'll probably try and find that instead of getting this new version.

Same here, I just hope it isn't hard to find and expensive :(

Another review.

Without a doubt the new disc offers an improvement over the 60th Anniversary Edition DVD that’s come before. The improvement isn’t night-and-day as with Pocahontas, but it’s unquestionably better… and this improvement is more apparent the more revealing the display (and the wider-angle your viewing distance).

After reading some of the comments in this thread, I was worried that I should maybe try to locate a copy of the older release. I actually think there's one left at my local Blockbuster. However, most reviews stated that the new release is slightly better, so I picked that up today.

Dumbo is one of my favorite Disney movies and I want to have the best version available, which version would you guys recommend? I've read that the screenshots from Ultimate Disney are not a very good representation of the actual dvd quality and that the Big Top edition is indeed the best for picture. Just how much better does the film look though? Is it a big enough difference to warrant the loss of some special features from the original disc?

The only thing you're missing out on with the new one is trailers. The other omitted special features are just a preview for Dumbo II (which got cancelled) and a terrible new version of one of the songs from the movie.

There's no reason to not get the new one.
