Got the wrong "edition" for christmas?
Anyone else get the wrong version of a movie they asked for? We did a secret santa here at work and I got my "old" edition of Chicago from my Santa. I even put "razzle dazzle" edition on my "wish list."
*sigh*
Simpletons
Guess I'll have to return it to Best Buy or somewhere in exchange for the other...no? I can't ask her for the receipt.

Hey dfnyc!
You know what, that is not shocking at all. Not many people will be able to pick up on that there are 2 completely different editions of "Chicago" on dvd. That one is a risky dvd to put on any X-mas list for people to pick up. You can eventually return it though, sorry about that!
Have a happy holiday!

If my mom got me the fullscreen version of SERENITY, I'm going to disown her.

Best Buy looks to be way overcharging for the original DVD. List on the original is 19.99-list on the new one is 34.99. Bestbuy.com has them at 18.99 and 19.99 respectively. That's actually a pretty good deal on the new one.

I got a fullscreen copy of The Mummy Returns a few years back from my wife. Her feelings were hurt when I returned it (
not sure why since I got the same movie but in widescreen). Oh well. Hurt feelings pass, but I still have my widescreen copy.
My mother did the same a couple years back with Scarface. That was much easier since I was able to exchange it for a widescreen version without her knowledge.
I make sure my wish list is very clear when there are multiple editions and/or full/widescreen versions. But I still only give the full list to select people. Those who haven't earned my trust get a truncated list where there's only one version they can get. For the really complicated stuff, I just buy it myself.

For "Secret Santa", you can't expect someone to visit several B&Ms just to find the best price on a gift for a co-worker. I say e-bay it or return it to Wal-Mart or Best Buy after x-mas. Spend an extra few bucks and get the DVD you wanted.

I got the full screen version of Mr. & Mrs. Smith at our work party.
Still waiting on that person to find the receipt so I can exchange it.

As long as it's sealed, just bring it back to best buy and say it was a gift. Don't ask for a receipt. Never know how people will react. You don't want her taking it the wrong way.....especially over something like this.

I always get the foolscreen. I don't feel bad when asking for a receipt. I just explain to them why I want to take it. Most of my relatives understand and by "most" I mean none.

From: In Darkley Noone ...
Step 1: "Yankee Swap!"
Step 2: "Oh, I just love this dvd of Chicago. It's so great. This is the best disc ever!!"
Step 3: Wait for unwitting chump to fall for the bait.
Step 4: "Sucker!! That's called reverse psychology!"
Step 5: Go for the iPod ... and profit
But seriously...
Luckily, my gf knows never to buy me fullscreen. And now she even does the shake test in store to make sure it's not a floater either.
To make things simple, I just made a wishlist on Amazon, with cover art pics and all, and printed it up. That way the people that are buying for you have absolutely no excuse for getting the wrong thing
The comments you can add to each item in the list are especially helpful (e.g. "The 'Razzle Dazzle" edition, not the regular edition, cheapass"
)
