This looks like an awesome set and I can't wait to get it. Now we need Fox to re-release the the Alien series in Region 1 in the special Alien Head bust/packaging that was available in Japan

Has there been a picture yet of how the boxset is store in the head or is it a seperate piece like the matrix collection?

Just going by the pictures a few posts up, if the torso is hollow, I'd imagine the short box would fit into that.

And it looks like no extended version of Battle either. If they can't find the film elements for a 16x9 transfer, they could at least make a dump of the laserdisc transfer, it'd be better than nothing.

Man, does that say only 10,000 copies? I know it's pricey but that seems kind of scarce. Thank God for tax returns.

Anyone think this will be available at a local Best Buy, or do you think it will be better to buy it online?

If any B&M retailer gets this, it would be Best Buy.

You can see it at the side of the box, over the big Planet of the Apes logo. It says :

Limited Edition Certificate of Authenticity
Numbered From 1 to 10,000

TVShowsonDVD has another tidbit, animated series separately. Fox is on a roll, I tell you, if they somehow pull an extended Battle for POTA out of their hats, I'd probably explode.

The way I interpreted it, while the animated series will eventually be released on its own, it will not be released outside the ape head set for awhile. How long they'll hold off, it doesn't hint at.

That Legacy Collection looks like it's exactly my speed. Guess I'll be dumping my Anniversary Edition on Half this week...

$34.99...great price. I think I'm definitely just getting the box.

Amazon is cheaper than Deep Discount, who's selling this for $36.59. They show the release date as 3/28, but every place else says 4/4.

Everyone else isn't up to date -- the street date was moved to 3/28/06.

Damn, I was set to get the box to get the cartoon, but now I might have to just get the cartoon. But I kind of want the new set, and the cartoon was my way to justify it (yes, $120 for some lame cartoon and an ape head, being a DVD-addict sucks).

Yep, it looks like that Legacy 5-disc box is the way to go! I'd rather have 5 separate keepcases anyway instead of that multi-page-plastic-book thingee the mega-set comes with - yuck. Also glad to see the cover of the original film doesn't seem to have the very well-known spoiler plasted all over it like the first version had.

So this 5-disc box-set and the separate animated series release seems like the perfect way to go. Didn't really want that friggin' ape head anyway and I like the presentation of all the individual elements the way they have been released separately in keepcases instead of that cheesy big plastic-book.

*sigh* I would have paid damn good money for that ape head too. But the wife wouldn't have it in the house. Not a mention of double dipping half the discs in it, but she wouldn't hear of having that ape head here. We always complain about other regions getting these cool sets, and when we finally get one, everyone bitches. It's no wonder the studios keep sticking us with a dozen versions of American Pie.

But seriously, have you seen the collection in my link? I think I'm fairly lucky considering some of the crap she let's me buy. And that's not even taking into account my Magic card addiction she helps feed.

Also, TVShowsonDVD pulls another one out of their hats

http://www.tvshowsondvd.com/newsitem.cfm?NewsID=4969

Animated series separately, March 28.
