Well, it seemsa that the animated series is not going to be released separately after all. TVshowsondvd.com has an update on the set:

Reading the update, it will be available separately, just not right away. They claim they ran out of time, but one wonders if it was because too many people passed on the ape head once they heard about the separates.

I'm patient though, I can wait it out.

I'm not going to buy the whole set but hopefully at a later date these movies will be released seperately then I can just get the ones I want and not get stuck paying all that money for the ones that I don't want.

So for somebody who already owns POA: 35th, the Tim Burton Version and the TV show, which is the best way to go on this, the Legacy Set? Im mostly just interested in getting the sequels.

I believe it was mentioned in this thread that the sequels will be available separately.

Awesome news on the extended cut. I really like the box art on the original movies but I want the animated series and the stupid head. Oh well.

Since this set is coming up has anyone heard whether or not after the 10,000 of the LE heads are gone this set will be available as just the boxset? Kind of like the Matrix set that was available as just the DVD's or DVD's with Bust.

I'd like this set but damn if I want that giant head in my living room.

I just want "Beneath the Planet of the Apes" separately. Bleakest sequel ever made, IMHO. The series started going downhill after that and "Escape.."

There will be a headless boxset, and all the sequels will be available separately.

And all you haters should realize how lucky you are to even consider owning the apehead. My wife has forbidden it to come within a 100 yards of our home. I would've paid top dollar to have that too

Cameron's right, the separate box is theatrical movies only, but everything else is supposed to be separate eventually. Since I only need the 16x9 sequels and the animated series it works out okay for me, but I will miss having that apehead.

The headless box set comes in a giant ape ass instead.

Wait, so if I want extended Battle for the Planet of the Apes I have to get the Ape Head? That version isn't available on the Legacy Set?

Wait, now I'm confused, the extended Battle will be available separately right? I finally brokedown and bought a used copy of the 2 disc original movie right before this box was first announced. I'd hate to have to buy it again in the boxset just to get the ext Battle and the other 16x9 sequel versions.

If they are releasing all the movies separately (i don't feel like backtracking through the thread to find out) then i would imagine the Battle disc would be the exact same version as in the box set, which would be the extended version.

Just saw a full page add in the latest issue of Premiere magazine, and it shows/lists the following as being available on March 28th...

Planet Of The Apes : Ultimate Edition - which has everything.

Planet Of the Apes : Legacy Edtion - which has the original 5 movies in new packging, anamorphic widescreen, Battle ..."Never available on DVD before Extended Edtion", and a bonus disc - which my guess is the Beyond The Planet Of The Apes doc that came with the original box set (Evolution), and the 35th anniversary edtion of POTA.

Individual movie releases for Planet, Beneath, Escape, Conquest and Battle (Extended Edtion).

No mention at all of Return to...Animated series.

I would truly love to get the Ape Head, but since I already own everything but the animated series, I just can't justify spending the extra bank on it right now. Almost too bad I didn't already own everything, or I'd buy that sucker in a heartbeat.

Over at HTF, Ron E. has pictures of the Legacy box. He also took a screengrab of the menu for Battle... and it's noted as Extended. I imagine they'll use the same for the single releases too, so that's encouraging.
