Top shelf is LOST (My favourite TV Show), followed by my mini-collections of Coppola, Eastwood (starring or directing), Scorsese, Spielberg, and Tarantino. Within each collection of films from a director they are arrange chronologically.

The bottom and third shelves are the rest of my DVDs arranged alphabetically.

Some are in pseudo genres like Comic Book based, Muppet related, Sci Fi, nerdy 80's, Bill Murray movies, TV, Documentaries/Music, then Comedy, Action, Childrens, and Others. A few directors have a section as well.

I keep all of mine in alphabetical order by title. I do put all numerical titles at the beginning of my collection. Mine starts out with my 3 sets of 007 Collections. I also keep my Indiana Jones movie set under "I" instead of "A" for Adventures of Indiana Jones. I mix my TV series in with my movies only because I have so many dvds that I need to save space. It is easy to find since it is in alphabetical order.

I also put films that have supplements that rest inside the slipcover like Jaws or Batman Begins. Slipcovered keepcases reside with the other slipcases.

I tried pure alphabetical, but the differing heights and widths of the various movies did not look good to me.

Ditto. I tried alphabetical, but the digipacks and different packing looked awful

Movie alpabetically followed by tv shows/specials alpabetically. The only exception to the rule is Batman Begins which comes after Batman Forever.

I use to arrange them by genre in alpabetical order. Now I just arrange them alphabetical but I keep the sets together. eg. Jack Ryan, James Bond etc.

Alphanumerically, same as my DVDProfiler sort.

Have been thinking about grouping the TV stuff together...

I have them organized into three different racks:

1) single disc DVDs
2) multi-disc DVDs
3) TV shows/documentaries/concerts

All in alpha order.

By movie type and then alphabeticaly within each type. The types are:
- Action
- Children's / Family
- Classics
- Comedy
- Drama
- Suspense / Thriller
- Scifi / Horror

Movie boxsets and TV series are stored (in no particular order) along the top and bottom shelves.

My DVDs are all over the place right now. I have three of those curved racks full, my closet stores a ton of my boxed sets (on the floor and in some shelving,) and I have a wardrobe type thing that is about 70% full.

All of this will be rectified once my room in our basement is completed. I'll have a closet just for DVDs.

Alphebetical order from title. It's the most easiest way to locate the DVD you want.

DAMN THESE THREADS!!!!! I just got done reorganizing my collection by genre after a long period of having the dvd's sorted alphabetically. Now I have the strong urge to put them back alphabetically. MUST.....RESIST!!!

Anyway, I now have my collection organized thusly:

Sci-Fi Classics (eg, When Worlds Collide, Original War of the Worlds, etc.)
Sci-Fi Comedys (eg, Galaxy quest, Evolution, Men In Black)
Sci-Fi All The Rest

Fantasy

Action/Adventure

Comic Book based Movies

Westerns

John Wayne Movies

War

Comedys

Mel Brooks Movies

James Bond Movies

Bruce Campbell Movies

Three Musketeers Movies

Zorro Movies

TV Sets

Animated

I promised the wife and myself that I would leave the collection alone for at least a month!!!
I may tweak it up a bit and fold some of the pseudo collections back into the other genre's. Damn there I go again wanting to rearrange. I gotta get out of this thread!! Take care all!!

When you want to watch a movie from your collection, do you already know what you want, or do you browse your collection to pick a movie?

I just switched from alphabetical to genre because usually I know what type of movie I feel like watching, but rarely have a specific title in mind. Now, when I feel like watching a zombie flick, I can easily browse through my horror/sci-fi titles to find something to watch.

Mine are even more random than they used to be, although I like to keep series/sequels together.
I 'browse' DVD profiler to decide what unwatched title to watch or series to start, unless something just catches my eye.

Ok! But usually, a viewer would know exactly what movie they want to see by title, and directly retrieve it, when their catagorized by alphabetical order.

I have mine seperated into three groups: movies, TV shows, and box sets. Each group is in alphabetical order.

I have 2 display cases for my movies. I keep my snappers first...followed by the keepcases, digipacks, etc...all in alphabetical order. After the movies end, my video game collection starts. On my 3rd display unit, I have my TV shows in alphabetical order, followed by wrestling DVDs, followed by "other" (documenties, music concerts/videos, etc)

Any "gift" boxsets, like the Best Buy Office set, or the Scarface & Schindler's List sets from Universal, go on top of my movie units.

I actually just finished putting away my latest haul from CH. I have all of my movie box sets sitting on top of the DVD bookcase and then I have them in a alphabetical order movie wise.

From there I have comedy (stand up), music and then TV shows listed alphabetically on a seperate shelving system.

However, my main display is now full, so I'll have to move some things around until I can pick up another shelving unit from DDD on the next sale.

Mine are on a bookshelf, bookshelf with glass, and wall shelves so it's kind of all over the place. The black bookshelf starts with comedies in alphabetical order, then horror, and drama finishes off that shelf. My wall shelves start with animated, then action movies, which finish off in the shelves with glass doors. My box sets are on top of this shelf. Westerns/War are included in action, although I may separate them one day.

Sections are: Movies (on R1 DVDs), movies (on non-R1 DVDs), TV shows, Sports, documentaries. Alphabetical by title within each section. For titles beginning with a number, they are in with everything else in alphabetical order as if the number were written out, whether or not it actually is.
