my DVD's are all in Alphebetical, and TV series (mainly on another shelf) are arranged to make them look pretty. mostly by "type" but more just grouped together. all my HBO are grouped together, alias and BSG in a spot etc etc.

for me, alphabetical is the only way to go. i'm not smart enough to remember directors / studios and i don't want to look up release dates or anything like that. when i started doing alphabetical people thought i was crazy, but now most of the people i know do the same thing, as they have realized how easy it is to find things that way

Mine are alphabetical....I have my TV series on another small shelf along with my Superbits (they were moved there because my main shelf is pretty full). I also have my XBOX and 360 and PSP games on my other shelf with my TV/Superbits.

OK I may be the one one here that does this. My DVDs are arranged according to actors, then alphabetically. For example, I have a huge collection of movies starring Bruce Willis (for example). Within the range of Bruce Willis movies, I have them arranged alphabetically. Then I have the special collectible editions separated from these, as with music dvds, tv shows or special boxsets.

Mine are arranged by Studio and then color coordinated within the Studio.

Yes, I know it's sick but it looks pretty good.

I was thinking of getting maybe four of those DVD towers that house just individual DVD's per slot and fifty per tower, and putting the cream of the crop in them, with the towers on each side of the TV stand in the living room. That should give me some room with my shelves for other DVD's and may look kinda nice in the living room itself that way. Not sure yet though.

I arrange mine by Actor, ordering them by Release Date. Occasionally, I will also arrange them by Studio, in order to keep a consistency.

For example, in the case of Clint Eastwood, Warner issued nearly 30 titles in their "Clint Eastwood Collection" packaging. In order to keep those together, I simply placed all of his films by a different studio in front of the Eastwood collection (ie. so Escape From Alcatraz now comes before Where Eagles Dare, etc.).

Now, having said all of that, I'm sure it sounds like some serious OCD going on. But here's the kicker. Out of over 1,000 titles, very few of them are actually in their original cases. When I take a dvd out of the player, I will usually just stick it in the case of the dvd I am going to watch.

I've actually done this for years, starting with cds. Now how many here can lay claim to this mad little habit?

I keep my movies in two wire racks by themselves in alphabetical order (but with teh snappers on the last shelf bythemselves, alphabetically) and then on a bookcase adjacent I have all my box sets (and a few single release that are related to the set) in really no particular order... and then sepreated I have my TV show releases in Alpha order with the boxes on the shelves vertical and the single dvd releases horizontal between the boxes and the top of the shelf...

This is going to take some time, but I love doing it

First, I have (A) 5 tall shelves that can hold over 500 DVD cases (thin-Pak) each, (B) 2 auxiliary shelving that hold about 150 cases each, (C) 11 Rubbermaid Keepsake Media Box that can hold 27 standard keep cases.
