think it just had a commentary and some interviews. its the only release in widescreen i think. cant see why in 2007 they cant create a new print from the laserdisc. how hard can it be?

It's not hard at all if you ask George Lucas, but if you want it done right you need to make a new transfer from film.

It's also very likely they were hashing out the rights, Paramount is not a big Criterion supporter.

i would doubt that in this day and age it will just be a laserdisc port transfer.

i assume the commentary and any extras would come over, and hopefully we will get some new goodies.

Since Criterion isn't supporting either HD format, I'll take the SD, but it better be cleaned up and have had restoration work done on it!!!

A few years back, the Egyptian Theatre in Hollywood ran a newly struck print, it looked beautiful. Both stars were there for a Q and A afterwards.

The extras on the LD were:

1) Commentary by screen writer Ib Melchior, actors Mantee and Lunden, production designer Nozaki and SFX designer Skotak

2) Excerpts from interview with director Haskin

3) Excerpts from Melchior's original illustrated screenplay for the film

4) Production design sketch book

5) Skotak's article on its history and making of the film

6) Original roadshow trailer

7) Publicity artwork and pressbook

8) Separate film sound track

It also came with that beautiful orange tinged gatefold cover.

P.S. I had mine signed by Mantee at that showing...that's a keeper!!!

He said, "it won't be long now," as he backed into the fan!
