A Poll About Robinson Crusoe on Mars

I'm writing a paper on Robinson Crusoe on Mars for a Tech Writing class I'm taking and I need to create a poll for it. So, I'm asking if you could answer my poll question on the film.

If you have a laser disc player, it might be advantagous for you to acquire the Criterion release of this film (the only release to laser disc). Very nice set of extras.

milo bloom 11-22-05 08:56 PM

I've never seen it, but it's brought up so often, I'm ready to buy it sight unseen.

Forum Troll 11-22-05 11:24 PM

I paid $100 for my copy of the Laserdisc. Worth every penny. Gotta love the man and his monkey marooned on Mars.

Cameron 11-24-05 11:30 PM

i would...but only because i am a dvd whore

mike45 11-25-05 01:41 AM

Great film. Certainly.

Seashellz 11-25-05 05:02 PM

ya know, I distinctly remember in a chat somewhere, a long while ago, that when asked when RCOM was coming to DVD, the interviewee from Paramount claimed that 'the negatives where destroyed in a fire', AFTER the Criterion LD was made.-and that was that. No chance of a DVD.
I was always suspicious of that statement. It sounded to me that they just didnt give a damn, or thought it commercailly unfeasable, but didnt want to look foolish in front of movie buffs-
Does ANYONE remember this or am I smoking too much crack these days?

Quatermass 11-25-05 05:43 PM

This used to be on TV a lot when I was a kid (in the late 70's). I can't remember it too well, but I'd probably buy it.

Dawg 11-26-05 12:39 AM

I want this bad... and would pick it up on sight... Someone, please release this.

Lemdog 11-26-05 12:49 AM

Hell yea

marty888 11-26-05 07:46 AM

Di$ney should have tried that excuse for Song of the South.

Seashellz 11-26-05 12:04 PM

I cant believe so many voted "no"...

Njål 11-27-05 09:27 AM

Got the laserdisc (and got a new one of the disc that wouldn't play), and would happily buy it again on dvd.

salamander2 11-27-05 09:48 AM

Who is voting no? And why?

zombiezilla 11-27-05 04:03 PM

I voted no because the poll asks "Would You Purchase A DVD Release of Robinson Crusoe on Mars?", and I would not. Simple as that. The movie is simply "not my bag, baby".

I voted no, because I don't have the money to waste on DVDs that I would never watch.

TomOpus 11-27-05 09:32 PM

I haven't seen the movie in ages but I remember liking it. I would probably buy it depending on the treatment.

rennervision 11-28-05 10:07 AM

I didn't vote, because I'm afraid "no" would unfairly skew the results. It is one of my favorite movies from when I was a kid, but having already spent $100 on the fantastic laserdisc complete with audio commentary, I don't think I have any need to own the DVD.

garolo 11-28-05 11:19 AM

I love this movie. I used to pretend that Jordan almonds were those oxygen pills.

gbub 11-28-05 11:34 AM

I also voted no simply because I've never seen the movie. It being an older sci-fi(?) movie and there being no nostalgia for me, I couldn't justify buying it. This doesn't mean I wouldn't watch it though.

The poll would maybe be more accurate if it read "Would you watch Robinson Crusoe on Mars if it were on DVD?"

Nebiroth 11-28-05 12:27 PM

I remember it best for it's use of the Martian Fighting Machines from the George Pal movie (the boomerang shaped bit, with a crystal added and without the metallic "snake" Heat Ray device).

Criterion confirms that this is coming next year in the addendum to their Dec. 06 newsletter: "There are many treasures in store for the new year, including some of our latest acquisitions, such as John Huston’s Under the Volcano, and titles from our laserdisc days, like Robinson Crusoe on Mars."

Sounds as if the Laserdisc extras will be ported over - anyone have a list of those Laserdisc extras?
