Place holder and a quote of RevKarl's list because mine is sure to look similar, albeit with Greta Garbo, Harold Lloyd, and Arrested Development in place of some of his.

DVD Talk Ultimate Edition
DVDs are ranked in order. My criteria:
1. It’s about the film – so the better films are appropriately rewarded. Films that may not be great but where I have enjoyed repeated viewings are also rewarded. A terrific release of a mediocre (at best) film is nothing but a 50 dollar saddle on a 10 dollar horse.
2. Value. DVD that delivers terrific content but at a high price point ain’t going to win against the same at a lower price point. Most reviewers turn a blind eye to this concept but the rest of us have to live in the real world. Same thing for double/triple dips and the like. Don’t expect me to reward some studio for finally getting it right. However, if a studio/director announces a special edition months in advance so that the consumer has the choice of waiting for the expanded edition, that seems pretty fair to me.
3. Added content. I’m not a big special feature kind of guy but well thought out extras can certainly help make for a more robust offering.
4. I only include films that I own or have seen.
The Films
1. Danger: Diabolik. I’m actually surprised how many other people around the Internet also think this is a ‘best of’ DVD. Sexy 60’s action/thriller by Mario Brava with tongue placed firmly against cheek. Terrific price point, great image quality and a fun, fun flick. Over-the-top protagonist with gorgeous and lightly clad Italian babe, twin XKE Jaguars, underwater scenes, fox and the hound chases … what’s not to love?
2. The Harold Lloyd Collection – Box set. Easily had for 35 bucks, this box set delivers tremendous value. Certainly not for everyone but will delight many a cineaste. Some feature films have optional music which really do give the films a decidedly different feel. Image quality vary by film but overall image quality is terrific given their age. Bonus features aplenty, commentary and even 3-D images from Lloyd’s personal collection. ‘Nuff said.
3. L’Eclisse. Terrific release of a first rate film. The B&W image a pure joy. I seem to be rating films with attractive Italian babes up high this year but as it is Monica Vitti, I’m allowed. L’Eclisse is a film that I actually appreciated more on second viewing. Antonioni has an eye for art and an eye for where to place his cameras.
4. The Essential Steve McQueen Collection. Another box set that could be had for 35 bucks and includes Bullitt, The Getaway, The Cincinnati Kid, Papillon, Never So Few and Tom Horn. Many a movie fan like Bullitt (as do I) but I also really like Peckinpah’s The Getaway and Jewison’s The Cincinnati Kid (although Ann-Margret should have had a bigger role, darn it). Also a collection that more than delivers on extras with Steve McQueen: The Essence of Cool along with my favorite extra of the year The Cutting Edge (about movie editing).
5. Sin City - Recut, Extended, Unrated. This would never have made this list except for Tower Record’s current $19.99 sale price (as I would have waited a year or so for the price to come down from its high perch. This set does deliver as I appreciate and enjoy the film and what Robert Rodriguez pulled off. Added points for some innovation such as the audience audio option (even though it’s kinda sick what they might applaud to). This DVD is well put together with interesting DVD menus and transitions and enough extras to suit most. One mistake, they gave us an extended cut (sequence) of a couple guys in a car - to show us the filmmaking process. While interesting … let’s face it … the extended cut we wanted was Jessica Alba doing her number in the bar. I didn’t think this film would deliver so well on HT format … I was wrong.
6. Kung Fu Hustle. This DVD makes it for how many times we watched this film. Chow is a fantastic director and here he delivers wonder, fun and comedy. Just the Landlady bombing down the street with the cigarette hanging from her mouth would have gotten this film on my list.
7. Bambi. This film if had been released in the Fall would have been on more ‘best of’ lists. However, many a film fan had mouth virtually agape at the stunning images delivered in this classic film.
8. Fox Noir Classics. Certainly Laura was a must-have for many a film lover but the other films such as Nightmare Alley, House of Bamboo, Panic in the Streets, Call Northside 777 etc. were quite interesting too. Available as three packs or as single releases they were at a very attractive price point.
9. F is for Fake. Not for many, but if you admire the art of film editing this is a film to at least see if not own. As Bogdanovich mentions, not likely the type of film that would appeal to those that want a sequential structure. I had heard of this film but never saw it. That now corrected, I can say that this is (at least) an interesting film and with some truly interesting documentaries (including one about Welles’ unfinished film projects). A DVD that cineastes should at least watch before buying.
10. King Kong (regular 2 disc edition). MGM gives excellent treatment to this film and I enjoyed the re-imagined spider pit sequence. Commentaries bothered a bunch of viewers and I can see their point “throw the bomb … chuckle, chuckle.” Could have been better with an additional commentary by a Kong/film expert or the like. Didn’t go for the deluxe edition as I have no interest in seeing Mighty Joe Young or Son of Kong and since I haven’t heard any movie forum interest in these films (prior to this release) can imagine these are (largely) gathering dust on shelves across the nation.
For your consideration at some point:
A Bell From Hell. Interesting flick that is one part horror, one part sexploitive and all parts weird. Well worth a look.

Great list, but unfortunately none of these were even released in R1, to my knowledge.
Might think about changing these to R1 DVDs.
