Sold my authentic, sealed copy on Ebay for $800 about 2 years ago. Parting with that was the hardest thing I've had to do in recent memory.
... but I used the money to buy a lot more DVD's.
Last time I checked, it was getting harder to distinguish the authentic ones from the fakes, as the bootleggers were getting better at it.

At this point, there are probably a lot more bootlegs in print than Criterion ever issued. I've seen a store that every now and then has a section for the "Criterion" SALO, with multiple copies priced at under $20 each. Yeah, right .....
