Got my set today (thanks to DVD Empire and Saturday shipping), III is definitely the old version. On the plus side, the packaging seems kinda durable, think of the R2 Alien Quad packaging, except the spine that lets you flip through discs is made of plastic.

Anyway, diving into it now, peace.

No. That was just speculation.

No it's not, I own the boxset and it's not part of it. I managed to score the OOP single-disc Anchor Bay version for $5.99 at Gamestop a week or two ago. I guess it's an ok pick up since it's been long OOP and the new Warner disc is probably like flat soda in comparison.

TomOpus 11-25-06 05:36 PM

Ah, ok... thanks guys.

WTF is up with this boxed set??? Only ONE Best Buy in Manhattan has it.

Kal-El 11-28-06 10:39 AM

Just got back from my Target with my UCE. I can't wait to pop this in my player. :D

How many UCE's were in stock at Target?

Did they have a lot of the "Superman Returns" 3-D covers and how did they look?

As mentioned in the other thread, that (historically) is not the best approach. It may take significantly longer and result in more frustration than just buying it now and doing the mail-in.

Some things to consider:

* how long will it take for "corrected" copies to hit stores? (It took 2 years for this to happen with Back to the Future.)
* how will you know a corrected set when you see one? There's no guarantee that Warner will mark them differently.
* what will the price be on the corrected sets? The sets are pretty cheap right now during release week... will you find a similar deal months down the road?
* how much time will you waste asking if anyone has seen corrected sets, looking out at stores, and waiting, waiting, waiting... while others will just mail away for new discs.

I want to say we have about 10-15. I was already scoping them out in the back room since Sunday.

We have a TON of the Target-exclusive 3-d cover Superman Returns DVD. It's actually cool. Instead of the usual 2-image lenticular, you get 3. One with Clark doing the shirt rip, one with Supes flying and one with just the shield.

so of the quality of Target's V For Vendetta lent. as that is indeed a nice one? thanks Kal-El.

of the UCE's are they packed tight inside so even with handling and shipping no real chance of loose discs, etc...?

I noticed that Costco had a ton of the Ultimate Collection sets. $62.99, I think.

There's a piece of foam inside the tin to hold the dvd case snug but I think it's still safe to kinda turn the case over and under and try to listen for loose disk/s. That's what I did anyway.

digitalfreaknyc 11-28-06 02:09 PM

Just went to BB on lunch. Completely sold out of the boxed set.

I was in CC during my lunch break and could have sworn I saw a $59.99 price.

Mok 11-28-06 02:59 PM

Man I couldn't find a copy of Superman 2 Donner Cut, I went to 3 different stores. They were all sold out, tons of all the other copies. I guess they want to force you into buying the Ultimate set.

MoviesRMyLife 11-28-06 03:17 PM

Both Best Buy, CC, and two different Target's were sold out of the UE set by lunchtime! I finally found a copy at the third Target I went to. I asked the employee at BB and he said they got 20 copies in, and there was a big rush early in the morning. It seems lately like I have to take Tuesday's off just to get my hands on new releases around here.

DavidH 11-28-06 03:36 PM

I'm still on the fence of what to do. Ideally, I'd like to buy the Donner Cut, Superman II: SE, and Superman: The Movie (4-disc). However, I'd only re-buy I and II if they are improved transfers and I'm not convinced they are. I'm pretty happy with the extended cut of Superman I.

SC0TLANDF0REVER 11-28-06 03:37 PM

I know that Donner didn't do the edit of 'The Donner Cut'...
Was it Thau?

Yes, but Donner was onhand and had a lot of input into what he wanted in and what he wanted out (he was insistent that the "Super Kiss" not be in this cut).

SC0TLANDF0REVER 11-28-06 03:42 PM

ahh cool - thanks for the clarification

yeah same here, seems like they put the same sticker on both boxes [The Reeve box also has the $59.99 sticker]... a mistake by them, so people hurry!!!
