(But who knows? I'm just relying on internet information.)

I remember reading somewhere (imdb maybe?) that there was once a 134 minute version of Superman 4? Would've been nice to see that in this set.

IG80Nate 11-20-06 06:26 PM

I'm confused.

Does the steelbook version come with that giant super duper box set?

because i'd actually prefer to NOT have that steel thing.

Doesn't look like it'd fit on my shelf.

RocShemp 11-20-06 07:40 PM

No, the steelbook of Superman Returns is for a seperate release (and it's for R2). What I'd like to know is if the 14 disc (or 13 disc, in case of the R2) sets all feature the outer tin (http://www.zonadvd.com/modules.php?n...icle&artid=652) because I want to order it from Amazon but they don't show the tin in any of their pictures (http://www.amazon.com/o/ASIN/B000J10...48951-9572735).

Rizor 11-20-06 08:46 PM

They should all feature the outer tin. There's no word about it being limited.

RocShemp 11-20-06 09:38 PM

Thanks. The fear that the outer tin might not be included is what's kept me from placing my order.

Entertainment Weekly did a feature on the set and reported that the set will contain the 1951 film Superman and the Mole-Men and 17 Fleisher Studios cartoons. Has anyone heard anything else about this?

Yeah....several months ago. It's been in the Set specs for ages.

A longer cut of SUPERMAN IV was previewed to audiences, and it met with disastrous results. So, the studio cut nearly 40 minutes of the movie so that it played with a running time of about 90 minutes. A whole segment of the story featuring Lex creating the "first" Nuclearman was eliminated, along with a lot of character and plot details. As bad as SUPERMAN IV is, I hear that the longer edition is even worse.

Kube 11-22-06 10:18 PM

Yeah, I can't believe I'm curious about Superman IV too. Been searching for reviews and didn't find any.

I figured 4 was bad cause because they made it so short.

Why was 4 so bad...they seemed like they were trying to fix the mistakes they made with 3...but it just didn't work...

LucaBrasi 11-23-06 11:36 AM

Posters over on The DVD Forums are reporting that the copies of the Ultimate Collection they recieved have the old copy of SIII instead of the new disc. Uh-oh.

dvd_luver 11-23-06 11:41 AM

LucaBrasi, are you serious? wtf! I was gonna buy this (and still will) but wtf? is up with the old SIII disc being in there?????

LucaBrasi 11-23-06 11:45 AM

Yep: CapedWonder.Com

So a WARNING to everybody out there!

The Valeyard 11-23-06 12:12 PM

Fuckin' shit. Sometimes it astounds me how stupid mistakes like this happen after taking so long to get something right.

Rizor 11-23-06 12:17 PM

And also, the theatrical cut of STM doesn't include the original sound mix like it's supposed to.

Certainly not the case with my R3 Ultimate Collection which I got last week.

ShaunoftheDead 11-24-06 09:33 AM

I just can't believe that they would somehow put the old disc in for III. Doesn't seem accurate. And even if, it's only Part III! I can live with that gaffe.

Michael Allred 11-24-06 01:24 PM

I'll be curious to know if A) the old SIII disc problem affects ALL of the box sets here in R1 and B) if this problem is relegated ONLY to the box sets. As in, are the individual DVDs of SIII: deluxe the new versions or the old disc too?

dvd_luver 11-24-06 01:47 PM

My local K-mart put this out early and I bought it early today for $69.99. Great set, though the last disc came loose during shipping and had marks all over it, but I won't watch it probably. I can confirm for sure that Superman III is mislabled and is for sure the 2001 release DVD. Yes, it is!

That aside, one of the best boxsets I own for a films franchise.

GuessWho 11-24-06 02:07 PM

what's the problem with S3?

bloomcounty 11-24-06 02:36 PM

Two questions:

1. Does the box set, in some form or the other, contain all the footage from the Superman II Restored International Edition bootleg? Or is there still footage on there that's not in the Donner cut or the deleted scenes for it in the new release?

2. So will WB be having a return process to send back the SIII disc for the correct one?

Thanks!

They pressed the "old version" on the new versions disc.

I'm SURE it does not have all the footage from that bootleg. Superman The Movie definitely does not.

They pressed the "old version" on the new versions disc.
Which means what, bottom line. Poorer picture?

There is a huge difference between the 2001 S3 and the 2006 S3, it has a new video/audio transfer and a great deal of new extras, so obviously this is a huge mistake on Warner's part and people like myself who have bought/will buy this Superman boxset certainly do not deserve to get the 2001 S3 DVD. It's not like this is truly it, the label side advertises the new Deluxe 2006 S3 DVD but the data side is the 2001 S3 DVD. The DVD is mislabled, so for people buying it, this is a huge error on Warner's part, this was a critical software glitch and they obviously pressed thousands and thousands.
