I have my review up now, should anyone be interested. It's spoiler-heavy, so proceed with caution if your a fan who wants to save the "surprises" until you get a chance to view the DVD.

I apologize for a few typing errors...those will be updated by 2pm Eastern. :)

It should be VERY interesting to see some of the fan created versions that result from the two cuts. ;) I know the wheels are already turning in my head about it.

I didn't mention this in my review, but I think the ABC Extended Version just might be THE definitive cut of this movie...it has the best parts of both directors' work, minus the Brando footage, of course.

The infamous RESTORED INTERNATIONAL CUT of SUPERMAN II has just about every piece of non-Brando footage re-edited back into the movie (taken from analog tape and fullscreen, of course).

I would love to see the ABC/KCOP version of SUPERMAN on DVD, if only to get all those missing segments (the demise of the Executioner, Superman's attempted head-on interception of the XK-101, the President at the golf course scene), but it looks like that footage will never make it to DVD.

the site is R2... but the packaging is exactly the same as R1 ...

but, look at this Superman Returns S.E. in a steelbook with a comic book (I think is R2 exclusive): Pics here

:jawdrop:

ok cool thanks, U have helped me make my choice... I have the Ultimate set and also the 8 Disc set, Donner Cut, Returns 2 disc, and Look up.. doc on pre order at amazon. Although I'm going to lose the journals & the exclusive documentary + THE LOW PRICE, I prefer to have the movies in their own boxes instead of them in one big book, which looks like it can break. I know it'll cost me more, but... I also don't like that Returns is in the Box.

I got the Alien movies seperate 'cause I didn't like the complete package either... oh well

I'm still upset that when they announced the superman collection some time ago, they made it sound like they would be releasing everything on BR and HD DVD simultaneously. Right now all they have is the movie and the donner cut (and returns) announced in High Def. I am pretty much done buying movies (some exceptions) on regular DVD now and was expecting a High Def box set.

I will be holding out...

I'll be picking up the Superman 4-discer, Supes II Donner Cut, and Superman III.

dvd_luver 11-17-06 01:39 AM

I think the 2-disc set for Superman Returns is more of a mainstream marketing approach with direct faces of Lex and Superman very eye grabbing with the city backround, and a comic book, steelcase, and nice packaging. In a way it totally works, but it's more suited for the mainstream buyer when I think the floating in space poster artwork would have been so much nicer especially with the design route they went with. So even after looking at those pictures, I still wish they had used it.

I don't think there has been a single HD-DVD box set yet. Guess it doesn't fall into their marketing plan

Paramount did a Mission Impossible trilogy box and Warner put out the Forbidden Planet tin box in HD. They're coming... just very slowly.

I too am disappointed that the Superman tin didn't make it to HD. As a completist (read: whore), I'm in a situation where I'm buying 3 HD DVDs (first movie, donner cut, returns) *and* the tin set. grrr... The fact that stuff like the theatrical cut of SII isn't even hitting HD is perplexing.

For most other things, I'd skip the tin and just wait for Warner to come to their senses and do the HD release right. But Superman is special, and I'm buying. Just one of the frustrations of being an early adopter.

If true, that blows. Unless I'm confused, I believe that Donner himself was upset at the new soundmixing. I remember reading that in an interview on one of the Superman sites a few years back.

Again, it was an R3 release. Wait for an R1 review before cancelling your pre-order. :)

wow! thats awesome. I had not heard about the Mission Impossible set, but I'm not a fan of the series. Glad to know warner is jumping right in. I've been scailing back a bit on new releases. New house early next year, and I plan on getting a new theater to go with it. Can't wait to jump in on that.

Oh, no worries. ;) I'll get it no matter what. But I'm still *hoping* for the original audio.

Can someone list or put a link to all the features of this new box set as far as extras go? I am especially wondering about what extras will be included for SIII, as that's my favorite one...no flames please :D

Where is this tin set you speak of?

You're not alone as it's my favorite Supes film as well. I made a topic about this in movie talk too.

The SIII extras so far appear to be:
New commentary by producers Ilya Salkind and Pierre Spengler
Vintage TV Special The Making of Superman III
Additional Scenes (19 minutes, 23 seconds)
Theatrical Trailer

Here in Canada, the steelbook will be available at Future Shop with the purchase of Superman Returns single disc DVD.

I'm watching the Superman ABC extended cut and goddamn...there's so much cut footage. It's really disappointing that WB didn't put all of this in it's own section.

Where are you watching the ABC Edition? Is it airing right now? And will these cuts be included in the Ultimate DVD collection?

JangoJason 11-20-06 09:56 AM

What Extras does Superman 4 disk have on it? Any Deleted Nuclear Man 1 Battle Footage?

There are a lot of DVD bootlegs around. I have one for each of the first 2 movies. Just a TON of footage not in the final cut. To be honest, even I find most of it tedious and I'm a huge Superman nut.

I'm hoping for the deleted footage of Clark visiting his parents' graves.

From what I understand, it ain't there...which is really a shame.

(But who knows? I'm just relying on internet information.)
