They've been getting better at it.

gryffinmaster 09-16-06 10:41 AM

Alright, I just noticed something on the Superman 4-Disc cover. Is Gene Hackman completely bald at ANY point during the first film? I've only seen the film 2-3 times and I can't remember exactly. Am I wrong?

digitalfreaknyc 09-16-06 11:10 AM

Yeah he is.

bloomcounty 09-16-06 11:10 AM

Perhaps more info than we realized in the R4 listing...

The listing at http://www.ezydvd.com.au/item.zml/790083 is very telling, if you think about it.

1. It refers to Superman Returns on the box set as, "the 2 disc version of Superman Returns" -- which implies there is another edition in comparison... which is more likely (I'm guessing) the four-disc (?) extended director's cut, with all the deleted stuff (like the opening sequence) back in the movie, and including the web documentaries. I read a rumor that the studio was going to put everything on the SR dvd instead of holding stuff back for another theatrical release (since ticket sales weren't as high as they hoped). Proof of a director's cut coming is that there's no commentary on this edition listed as part of the set (and, again, the missing web documentaries). It looks like WBHV is getting a "sort-of" double dip on the SR, since if you want the 14-disc set, you'll still have to buy the extended director's cut of SR separately. But, heck, I'll be doing it. I'd rather the director's cut be included in the box set, but I don't mind owning both the theatrical cut and the director's cut. (Of course, this is just all my own theory.) Also, I wouldn't be surprised if they announce a 3 or 4 disc SR director's cut the SAME DAY they announce the 2-disc SR special edition and the 14-disc box set.

2. What is the 14th disc? It's still unaccounted for. The interesting thing to note is that this listing of the 13 disc version lists that there are "bonus documentaries" -- Bonus New Documentaries (The Mythology of Superman, The Science of Superman, Remembering Christopher Reeve) -- in the main listing... yet there is no mention of them on any of the 13 discs. The You Will Believe - The Making of a Saga disc does not show that it includes these. I'm guessing that it might be a mix-up in their R4 press release, and these things are NOT included in the R4 version, but will be the 14th disc on the R1 release. (Or they are included, on a 14th disc -- and they just don't list it as a 14-disc set because that extra disc is a "bonus"... though that would be weird marketing/wording.) Again, just a theory.

All I know is, I can't wait for this! I want the 14-disc set and the Director's cut of SR now, dammit! :)

Cameron 09-16-06 11:33 AM

I think they mean its the two disc version as opposed to single disc version that comes out the same day....WB has been pretty light on suprising people with double dips...usually they release same day and let you choose.... Searchers, Wizard of Oz, Batman Begins, Constantine, etc.

the only title i remember getting a two disc later was Gothika and the Matrix movies in the box set.

But no director's commentary and no webisode things? He did commentary for the two X-Men movies and I'm almost positive he said the webisode things would be on the dvd release. So I'm still thinking that there's going to be a director's cut release. But you're probably right about single vs. double for now... maybe it'll just come at some later date. And hopefully not just on HD!

Supermallet 09-16-06 02:05 PM

He might do IME for the HD DVD in lieu of a commentary.

Were the webisodes you posted about released as the Best Buy exclusive to "Look Up in the Sky"?

No it's not. I posted about it on the last page.

Boy I sure love that silly message board attitude!

Uh... if you're referring to THIS post:
http://forum.dvdtalk.com/showpost.ph...&postcount=470

...what you list there is, in fact, INCLUDED (as far as I can tell) as one of the THIRTEEN discs listed here: http://www.ezydvd.com.au/item.zml/790083

It's listed right after the "Look Up In the Sky!" documentary. In fact, it is the THIRTEENTH DISC listed. Therefore, the FOURTEENTH disc is NOT accounted for. My theory was that it's a disc including something that's listed under the special features as this:

Bonus New Documentaries (The Mythology of Superman, The Science of Superman, Remembering Christopher Reeve)

...as that ISN'T listed anywhere as part of one of the THIRTEEN discs they list.

(Or, I could be totally wrong...)

Hey, I can have silly message board attitude too! :D

Umm... or the 1 disc version. There is no 4 disc version.

Umm... this was already answered in Post #481:

...and the 4-disc thing was just a theory on my part.

Let the message board attitude continue to flow! :D

There seems to be only one person responding here with a "message board attitude." :sarcasm:

Well, I am the only one freely admitting that they're doing it...

Perhaps I'm mistaken, but digitalfreaknyc's resposne to me saying that the 14th disc was still unaccounted for was:

"No it's not. I posted about it on the last page."

Maybe I'm "hearing" that said in a way that it's not intended, but it sounds like major attitude to me. No link? No explanation? Especially since it seems he was wrong.

Also, Son_Of_Zod's response was:

"Umm... or the 1 disc version. There is no 4 disc version."

You're going to tell me that saying, "Umm..." isn't sarcastic? What point does it serve? If you want a comparison, look at Cameron's response to the same question. Very polite. So that's what I'm talking about. Perhaps I'm imagining it, but to be honest... I don't post on message boards often, and when I do, I go out of my way to be polite and friendly (isn't that what an on-line community is supposed to be about?) -- but I've always been annoyed by the amount of people with "message board attitude". Many people tend to get this high and mighty attitude and a sense of self-importance, which I suppose is easy to do when you're hiding behind your keyboard in the safety of your own home. But it's always bugged me... and this time, I decided to make a point of it. Sure, there are way more extreme examples of "message board attitude" than what's been displayed here, but personally I just reached my limit. The "message board attitude" I displayed was, obviously, done on purpose (as I pointed it out myself), to make a point. Perhaps I was totally imagining it, but either way, I'll just go back to ignoring that kind of attitude, since it's incredibly silly.

So, enough of that... back to us all wondering if we're going to get screwed out of the Superman ultimate box set! :D

digitalfreaknyc 09-19-06 10:08 AM

If you're going to assume that everyone who responds has an attitude, Mr. New Member, you're not going to be around long. If you have a problem with something, use the "report to mod" button. Otherwise, don't always assume the worst.

Okay, then I also won't assume the "Mr. New Member" is supposed to mean anything...

To clarify, I don't think EVERYONE who responds has an attitude. I specifically gave an example of someone I felt didn't have one (in comparison). This is an exaggerated and unwarranted statement on your part -- and you are being guilty of the same thing you're accusing me of: Assuming.

If you feel the need to get me kicked off the board (though I can't see what the reasonable explanation would be), then feel free. I don't spend all day on message boards, so I think I'll live.

Perhaps you should read your own quote in your signature...?

And, yes, it seems others agree with you, and that's fine too. I have an opinion on that as well, but I'll keep it to myself.

Again, I'm done discussing this... and am moving on back to the topic at hand. I'll just choose to ignore comments/responses that appear to have an attitude. All parties will be better off that way.

SO... back to the topic at hand. What was your response to the whole 13th/14th disc thing? Was I misunderstanding what you were saying, or did you read the press release thing wrong...? It looks to me that what you said is the 14th disc is listed as the contents of the 13th disc.

I've been on the board quite a while, and I think you are misinterpreting their responses. No one is trying to get you kicked off or haze you or anything. A lot of times if members think that something has already been answered, they may be blunt, but it is not because of attitude, it is just short and consise. The "Umm..." is simply a way to point out how someone might be confused and once again, not an attitude thing. In almost all my experiences, the attitude comes from New Members or 12 year olds (not applying this to you). Believe me, it's all good.

As for Superman... Still waiting for the HD announcements :D

Thanks for the post, Numes!

No HD player for me, but I REALLY want that 14-disc (13-disc?) box set in R1. If they don't release it in the US, well, then, Lex Luthor has already won...

:D

digitalfreaknyc 09-19-06 03:46 PM

HD only for me.

Looks like a bootleg.

Geofferson 09-20-06 04:01 PM

This seems like a great opportunity to push for the HD format. For example, if the HD dvds included the deleted Krypton sequence I know I'd pretty much be suckered in. :)
