I don't know what the policy is for US Doctor Who releases (did they ever replace any of the DVDs?), but for all the previous UK disc replacements, anyone who purchased the Region 2/Region B releases (even if they live outside the UK) could mail back their defective disc for a corrected one. Though I'm in the US, all my Doctor Who DVDs and blu-rays are Region 2/Region B, and I have gotten replacements for every disc that an exchange was ever offered for.

The only downside is that anyone outside the UK has to pay the return postage themselves, but it's a small price to pay for a corrected disc.

Based on previous experience, I suspect that the Sontaran sound issue will probably be fixed for the UK via a disc exchange at least, but I can't speak for the US/Region A release. Usually, the UK get their stuff first and any mistakes are caught in time before a US release, but that's obviously not the case this time.

WB is the distributor of Doctor Who discs in the US. They did a disc exchange for some problem discs for Series 6 of New Who back in 2012.

Re: The One & Only DOCTOR WHO DVD Thread (8th Incarnation)

The UK set (at least) will be getting a disc exchange. Here's what they've had to say:

Thank you for contacting BBC DVD Support.

We will be offering replacements for the errors on Disc 3 (The Sontaran Experiment) and Disc 5 (Revenge of the Cybermen) in the Doctor Who The Collection Season 12 Blu-ray release.

In order to obtain a replacement, please email proof of purchase to this DVD Support line, in the form of a receipt from the retailer. If you do not have a receipt from the retailer, then please email a picture of the product with your full name and postal address in view.

The estimated time frame for the replacement to be available is 4-5 weeks. Please allow some time for the replacement disc to reach you.

Remember, this is what they've told a UK fan who contacted them by email.

If you are in the US, you should probably still contact them first (especially if you're asking about the US set). Their email address is [email protected].

I only know about this because my DVR recorded it, but two days ago BBC America aired the Shada partially-animated reconstruction. It's still available on the BBCA site (cable subscription/login required).

http://www.bbcamerica.com/shows/doct...-episode-shada

My DVR captured it under the title "The Lost Episode". It ran 3 hours with commercials.

FYI I sent an inquiry regarding the replacement discs for the Tom Baker set and was told that it's still in the works.

Alot of Doctor Who (blu-ray) on sale at Best Buy right now. Just picked up Series 6 & 7 (Matt Smith) for $14.99 ea. I think Series 1 through 7 are $14.99. Don't know about other Doctor Who but might be worth a look:

Sure wish the David Tenant seasons were out on Blu-ray for NA region. They were "released" more than a year ago, but I've never actually seen them anywhere.

Re: The One & Only DOCTOR WHO DVD Thread (8th Incarnation)

Picked up the 4K version of Twice Upon a Time last night expecting it be a dual format set but it’s only the 4K disc, no Bluray. We have an Xbox One in the bedroom but only a regular Bluray player in the living room where we watch most of our discs. I can drag the Xbox out to watch if needed but I was a little annoyed it didn’t have both.

Re: The One & Only DOCTOR WHO DVD Thread (8th Incarnation)

It seems the episode# lists in the first post have fallen out of use. Does anyone know of any others? I use them to properly sort the DVD/Blus on FilmAficionado.

tks

That's me. I've been lazy. I'll have to take a look at that front page again.

Sorry, it's the ones linked to external pages. I wasn't sure who was curating them.

Let me know if you need a hand with them.

Re: The One & Only DOCTOR WHO DVD Thread (8th Incarnation)

Doctor Who - The Complete 11th Series (BBC) - 1/29/2019:
$59.99 SRP DVD; $64.99 SRP Blu-ray

The brand new series of Doctor Who marks the arrival of Jodie Whittaker, the 13th Doctor - a super-smart force of nature - alongside a new team of friends. Already highly anticipated, the new-look series heralds a brand-new era for Doctor Who with a world-class team at the helm led by showrunner Chris Chibnall. The show will be full of action and adventure, humor and thrills, an unmissable adventure across all of space and time.

NOTE: this title was previously available for pre-order, with no specific date announced. Now BBC Home Entertainment has scheduled the item for January 29th. There has been no word yet, however, about content: we're certain the main 10 episodes of the season will be included, but the BBC hasn't said yet about Christmas Specials or bonus materials.

Tney released the single story DVDs out of order, too.

Wonder how they’ll handle the Hartnell and Troughton seasons.

Re: The One & Only DOCTOR WHO DVD Thread (8th Incarnation)

It seems like they're starting to regularly release animated recreations of the lost serials.

The Power of the Daleks was released on Nov 21, 2016.
Shada was released on Dec 4, 2017.

It seems like they're roughly doing one a year.

Re: The One & Only DOCTOR WHO DVD Thread (8th Incarnation)

I'd like an animation of the Hartnell serial Marco Polo. That's the only serial from the first season that is missing episodes and doesn't have a reconstruction available. But really I don't think they are going to bother with the first two doctors on blu-ray.

Re: The One & Only DOCTOR WHO DVD Thread (8th Incarnation)

I don’t know that animation would serve “Marco Polo” particularly well. It’s a seven part historical, and I think most of its appeal was the costuming and set design. That would be completely lost with animation, and better served by the old telesnap recons.
