What a massive goof. A couple hundred grand lost (reasonable estimate) in the blink of an eye. Since the movies were released earlier (only the bonus disc is different), and the boxset will surely be re-released in the future, I doubt it will become rare or valuable in the meantime. Just a real brain fart for the marketing team. Somebody will get canned for this.

Maybe it's one of the medieval babes? They haven't been doing much since Bogus Journey.

I agree that i dont think one packaging mistake will make this a collectible. These will surely be rerelease in a new box. No need to destroy all the discs if its only the art thats bad. Just replace the art. I was waiting to buy this set anyway, so it looks like i'll be waiting a little longer. Here's to hoping it gets rereleased before the next DDD sale and this time cheaper.

Of course it's a collectible. ANYTHING is a collectible. Now will it be a collectible with *value*, that's a different story.

It's a nice thing to pick up as an oddity.

Cheaper? Two movies and a bonus disc for around $20 shipped at some places? Seems reasonable to me.

But anyway, although this may become a strange footnote for DVD collectors, I have to doubt that it will ever be a Little Shop of Horrors first printing situation. It's just funny.

You had me fooled, I wasn't in on the joke.

and it's a phone sex number, but it's a number people will call at their own risk, or recall, lol.

Picked this one up today as well.

Tried the number, had a good laugh. I wonder how many are/will be sold before all the recalls come in?

If the dudes in the marketing team had a time-travelling phone booth, they could go back and remind themselves to erase the phone number. Then the phone number will have disappeared from all our boxsets, there would be no recall, and this thread will have magically disappeared. Excellent!

Unfortunately they just ran out of quarters for their time travelling booth.

Reminds me of the editing that was done to the DVD of The Santa Clause. When shown in theaters, Scott Calvin's ex hands him the number of where he can reach her while their son is staying with him on Christmas Eve. He looks at it and says, "1-800-Spank-Me? I know that number!"

Turns out, that was a legitimate number of a phone sex business. When edited for broadcast on TV, the line is changed to "1-800-The-Pound." Ties in with a pound joke Scott made a minute or two earlier. But on DVD the entire scene is removed.

Wondered at first if the change was made to keep a Disney film a little more innocent. But when I learned the number was active, the cut made sense. Still kinda sucks, though. I have a good memory, and when changes like that are made to movies, I know it.

If there was any place selling it for that low, i'd be fine. But the lowest shipped is at DDD for $22. And even at that price its a tough choice b/c this is a double-dip - i already own the bare bones dvds. so basically its like $22 for just the third disc.

I guess if you want to take the term literally, you are right. However, I do believe i meant that it would be collectible as in an investment of sorts.

That's how I see it. They should recall them to add more worthwhile special features like a director's commentary.

It's just one of my pet peeves... the word "collector" used to mean just that - one who collects. Now when people think "collector," they think of the overweight unshaven geek poorly in need of a shower that they see at Target rummaging through the Hot Wheels, action figures or whatever the current "hot" item is in hopes of making a quick buck. Those are speculators, not collectors.

The same has happened with the term "collectibles," most people seem to think that it means an item with investment potential.

I sold the old ones on eBay for 15 and bought box for 19.... so it was just $4 "for just the third disc"

This is something like the "fan phone" number from the set of 24. If you've watched the extras on 24 - Season 2 (I think), they make mention that they let slip a real number to one of their cell phones during the show and they get calls to that phone on a regular basis and they're actually more than happy to take them.

The way i see it, and I came to this realization after i had been "collecting"/reading comics for about 5 years is that the only way things become valuable collectibles is if someone wants to buy it down the road. And the only way someone is going to want to buy it if they dont already have it. And the only way they will pay lots of money for it, is if the item they want is rare. These days, everyone is collecting something for just the purpose of gaining future value. If there is an abundance of something in the market, then its value wont rise. So keeping it is pointless.

I.e. Action Comics 1 or Amazing Fantasy 15 wouldnt be valuable today if all the kids who bought it when they came out knew it would be worth something in the future and kept their copies in mint condition instead of reading it, tossing it in a box, and later their parents throwing it away when they went to college.

I have yet to see this recall notice on any other dvd website...and yes, I concur that I would prefer to NOT double dip on these titles. There are so many other titles desperate for simply an anamorphic transfer. Of course, if this boxset were selling for $100 in a year's time, I may regret not buying it.

Well, we're no longer selling it and I can only assume that all our stores across the country pulled the box too after reading the memo. However, it was still out in stores like HMV today so your guess is as good as mine.

Exactly. In my youth I worked at comic book shop during the "collecting boom" and I tried to explain that to people. They'd say "well since the stuff from 40 years ago is worth a fortune now, this stuff will be worth a fortune in 40 years!"

I tried to tell them about things like the increased print runs now compared to 40 years ago, the rise in collectors, the invention of better storage devices and such. I finally gave up and laughed at them as they bought their 10+ copies of every #1 issue, every multiple cover, every crossover issue, etc.
