I've only got a few, only because there's no other version.

Marked for Death
Volcano
Tango & Cash
Princess Blade - SE (why ADV released this non-anamorphic I don't know)

For you DVD profiler addicts, you can easily tell which ones are non-anamorphic by:
Choosing A/V Filter Tab.
Clearing the Pan & Scan checkbox entirely (from greyed out to black to clear)
Clearing the Full Frame checkbox entirely (from greyed out to black to clear)
Clearing the 16x9 Enhanced checkbox entirely (from greyed out to black to clear)
Choosing the And operator.

This should now show you your non-anamorphic widescreen DVD's. Sorry.

For this early adopter, 10% of my collection is like this. Some woeful faves:
What About Bob (zooming works but you feel like you're in their face)
Charade (Criterion Collection UPC 37429-13942 shows up on this list - can you confirm another version of this actually anamorphic)

The rerelease of Charade is indeed anamorphic. I just swapped my old Criterion for the new Criterion version.

The version I have of Back to School is anamorphic. I just got it a few months ago but it's been out for a while. See this thread: http://www.dvdtalk.com/forum/showthread.php?t=428240

"Is Dragon properly flagged as widescreen or is it flagged as 4X3?"

Anyone know? I know it's listed as 2:35 widescreen but is it flagged as such. People with widescreen TVs: In other words does the DVD have to be zoomed manually or does it do it automatically when it starts?

Thanks for any info.

Isn't The Ref actually Fullscreen? I forgot all about Texas Chainsaw Massacre 2 being non-anamorphic...I guess that brings my total up to 18.

Are you positive yours is anamorphic? Have you verified that firsthand by watching it on a WS TV? And if so, are you certain your TV isn't set to zoom by default? Because my copy says it's anamorphic on the box, but it definitely isn't. Although it wouldn't be the first time an anamorphic upgrade has been quietly slipped into the marketplace. I know that was the case with Rocky IV, for instance. If there's really truly an anamorphically enhanced Back to School DVD floating around I definitely want to pick that up.

The success of this depends on the accuracy of your DVD profiles. Unfortunately there are too many that are entered incorrectly or omit particular pieces of info altogether that can throw your results. Personally I don't have the time to manually enter the profiles on all 604 of my DVD's so I have to rely on the frequently erroneous enteries in their database. For instance, when I ran this filter it listed titles like Demons/Demons 2, Leatherface: Texas Chainsaw Massacre III, and Rabid which are all anamorphic. It also left off ones like Texas Chainsaw Massacre 2, Brazil and 2010 (strangely a couple of those did NOT have the 16x9 box checked in the profile, and yet still failed to register in the filter search).

Agreed. I've submitted a few changes to incorrect profiles I've found over the years, and even an occasional hi-res cover scan.

It's definitely anamorphic. I've confirmed it by watching it on a computer (looking at the 16:9 window which the transfer fills, minus some slight matting to give it a 1.85:1 ratio instead of 1.78:1) and on a 4:3 TV with vertical squeeze. The UPC is 0-27616-89691-9.

Awesome. Great news. I haven't watched the DVD yet (it's on order). Scratch that one off my list then.

Also fantastic news. I'll have to grab it next time I see it. Tower usually has it in their bargain bin. MGM must be the king of quiet upgrades.

What's this? There's a new TCM DVD forthcoming? Details please.

Yes, a 2-Disc Set. MPI Home Video is releasing it under their Dark Sky label. There is no release date scheduled yet, but I'm guessing it will probably be out in October. It will feature a brand new 16x9 enhanced transfer that was supervised by Don May, Jr. (President of Synapse Films) in 2003 for the VOOM HD Satellite Service, which was promoted by Sears. Reportedly, this new transfer will blow the old botched, non-anamorphic transfer on Pioneer's DVD out of the water 100 times over. Extras will include a new commentary track (recorded in November 2003) with David Gregory (with Blue Underground), Marilyn Burns (Sally), Paul Partain (Franklin, now deceased), Bob Burns (TCM's Art Director, now deceased), and Allen Danziger (Jerry). Also included will be the 2000 documentary "Texas Chainsaw Massacre: The Shocking Truth" which was produced by David Gregory when he was working for Exploited Video in the U.K. The documentary is 72 minutes, but the edition on the DVD will be expanded by 8 minutes bringing the total running time to 80 minutes. I've never seen the documentary (it's never been available on DVD in the U.S.), but supposedly it covers EVERYTHING regarding TCM and its 3 sequels. Almost everyone from the original TCM was interviewed (except for Teri McMinn (Pam), Edwin Neal (The Hitchhiker), and John Dugan (Grandpa) and they even interviewed a few people from the sequels, most notably, Caroline Williams ("Stretch" from TCM 2). There is even footage of Gunnar Hansen (Leatherface, TCM) at the TCM farmhouse which is now a restaraunt in Kingsland, TX.

Wow! My mouth is officially watering. No Tobe Hooper commentary, though? Does he at least participate in the documentary?

Yes, Tobe is interviewed in the documentary. It hasn't been confirmed, but hopefully all of the extras on Pioneer's DVD will transfer over to this new 2-Disc Set. That way, I'll be able to get rid of the Pioneer disc.

Well, we are talking about the upgrading of a prominent non-anamorphic DVD...
