Walt Disney's Tarzan: Special Edition 2-Disc SE 10.18.05

from ultimate disney
Apparently answering complaints about overly cartoony cover art, Disney has mildly retooled the look of the characters and background on next month's Tarzan Special Edition DVD re-release. Though the spine has been suspiciously updated to remove a "2-Disc" reference, this set is still expected to hold dual platters.

According to UltimateDisney.com, it has been confirmed that Tarzan will indeed by a single-disc "special edition." Thank god I didn't sell my old single-disc version in anticipation of getting this.

Coupon inside of Cinderella PE booklet which I got a day early in the mail from bestbuy.com says $3 off the October 18, 2005 new 2 disc release of Tarzan SE. Between that & the trailer on Toy Story 10AE saying 2 disc it still may turn out to be the CE with a few additions & all new artwork & menus. I hope so. If not they're doing some unbelieveable lying in all their advertising.

I have checked at least 4 or 5 sites and they are all showing that this is a 2 disc release. Why is it so hard to find out something as simple as this?

well, i have seen this now....not opened...but it is definatly not a two discer. Its not mentioned on the box anywhere. Not nearly heavy enough, and no center tray rattle. Sorry to bum you guys and gals out. I sold off my old copy of the one disc....not sure if i will get this or just shell out for the two discer.

Yeah, I've been meaning to get Emperor's New Groove and Tarzan. The new Tarzan offers a 5.1 track (the old one was 5.0), and the new Emperor's New Groove keeps the DTS track. Best Buy is offering $6 off if you buy both on the same receipt, and it's gonna be a lot cheaper than tracking down the two disc releases. I think I'm gonna cave. Just don't really want to pay $50+ for Tarzan, $30+ for Groove, etc...

actually, if you have a ultimate electronics...most still stock the emperor's new groove two disc for 23.99
I just keep searching for tarzan in used bins...i'll find it someday.

time to put it to rest...Ultimate Disney review...
"The Special Edition was originally announced as a 2-Disc set that would largely resurrect the exemplary supplements included on the Collector's Edition. That's how it arrived to other countries and that's how the set's been advertised since then -- repeatedly in fact, and as recently as this month, inside the much-hyped Cinderella Platinum Edition release. Most consumers will likely be surprised, then, when they get their pre-ordered packages in the mail or return home from retailers with the new release in hand this Tuesday and find that it is actually only a single-disc release. This sudden drastic change went all but unmentioned by Disney. To be fair, the original press release was modified and some (though not all) of Disney's advertising began to curiously drop the "2-Disc" label during a very brief period of time leading up to this release. It's doubtful that many people who are not regular readers of UltimateDisney.com took notice. The reason for the duplicitous change is inexplicable, especially given that all the content for a second disc is already in existence and currently off the market. As a result, many fans are likely to be disappointed by this release, as even while it offers some quality supplements, it loses a larger wealth of valuable features that could and should have been included. The material that did make the cut for this release and its presentation are the subject of the remainder of this review."
so glad my OOP 2D is still a mainstay in my collection.

Is it safe to assume, however, that this newest version has the best picture quality? I have a 126" screen and always try and get the best version in terms of PQ. While I would have liked for this to have been a 2 discer, if the pic is better I'll probably still get it.
