I saw a used copy of this at the MovieStop in Orlando over on Kirkman Rd. yesterday. It was only $11.99. I didn't pick it up though because I already have it. I don't know how it's going to compare to the new one coming out, but I doubt I'll be upgrading.

After a bit more thought, I'll actually be a bit perturbed if the only new thing is a new commentary. The current commentary is more than sufficient...a new one would just be bait for suckers like me to upgrade, and ultimately unnecessary.

It's good that this is going back on the market, but would be better if it were just a simple matter of putting the old one back in print. But then, technically, nothing has been officially announced yet, so I'll save my indignation for later.

Exactly. No specs has been announced and a lot of people are assuming the same extras will be ported over. This is why I'm glad I not too upset about this.

Looked at my copy of the 2-disc version and it has a "5.0" Dolby mix. Might upgrade for a 5.1 or better yet, a DTS track.

Maybe I should swing by there. I wouldn't mind having the original 2-discer as well as the upcoming release.

Has there even been DTS on any of the recent Disney re-releases?

But those were a while ago. I don't think there's been anything recently.

I know that but that wasn't part of the question. Disney likes to use their "Enhanced Home Theater Mix" now.

From Davis DVD:

"Buena Vista will reissue a couple of animated titles on October 18th. The two-disc Tarzan: Special Edition will include a 1.66 anamorphic transfer and Dolby Digital 5.1 tracks. Bonus-wise, it looks like there will be a mix of new and some previously issued extras - so hang on to the superior "Collector's Edition" from five years ago. Look for an audio commentary, deleted scenes, alternate opening, two Phil Collins music videos, "Trashin' The Camp" studio session with Phil Collins and 'N Sync, "Strangers Like Me" music video by Everlife (NEW), Terk's Tree Surfing Challenge Game (NEW) and Disneypedia: Living In The Jungle (NEW). Retail is $29.99."

There also seems to be cover art there:

As far as I can tell, since I already have the OOP version, this is a completely worthless release. Still, for those who don't already have it, sounds good.

Definately glad I have the old 2-discer as well. I understand that Disney is mainly in it for the kids, but a lot of us adults love them too, and enjoy all the making-of and behind-the-scenes type stuff a hell of a llot more than some silly game or sing-a-long.

I wish they'd put all that type of crap on the one-disc sets, and then leave the two-disc "collector's" sets for the adults and give us some decent features that we'll actually enjoy.

Actually, the original Tarzan disc is still a great disc, and is a reminder of what a special edition used to be back in 2000: film school in a box (true, there are better examples from that time period, but it's just a shame that Disney is now stripping it mostly away to create this fluffy release).
