Those specs actually make me even sadder about the fact that I never got the old collector's edition.

That picture makes it look like a 1 disc release. So which is it?

So far it still is. Everybody has it listed as 2 disc including the specs I posted above.

But do you see how the small list of specs doesn't jive with it being a 2 disc release?

From DVDAnswers:

Disney has announced a new special edition of Tarzan which features the voices of Minnie Driver, Glenn Close, Rosie O’Donnell, Tony Goldwyn, Brian Blessed and Nigel Hawthorne. The disc will be available to own from the 18th October this year, and should retail at around $29.99. The film itself will be presented in 1.66:1 anamorphic widescreen, along with an English Dolby Digital 5.1 track. Extras will include an audio commentary with the filmmakers, an alternate opening, deleted scenes, a new Strangers Like Me music video performed by Everlife, and a new game entitled Terk's Tree Surfing Challenge. Completing the package will be three seperate games in one (Jungle Memory, Banana Round Up and Clayton's Trap), a Disneypedia: Live in the Jungle feature a You'll Be In My Heart music video by Phil Collins, and a Trashin’ The Camp studio session with Phil Collins and ‘N Sync. We'll bring you the artwork shortly.
Not only is it the same short list of extras, there is also no mention of it being 2 discs.

Sure looks like this one is a step back form the original CE outside the upgrade from 5.0 sound to 5.1.

from the bits

Disney is reportedly planning new Tarzan and The Emperor's New Groove 2-disc special editions on 10/18.

I don't remember the last time Disney put out a theatrical movie in a single disc release. This does seem a little more geared towards the wee ones...hopefully I'll find a used copy of the old around release date

And I doubt that'll be much of an improvement as the 5.0 track had plenty of bass as I recall.

Wasn't Home On The Range a one-disc release? And, of course, there's Lilo and Stitch.

What a mess.

Both discs have totally conflicting spec lists depending on what and where you are looking at. Assuming the lists at DVDAnswers is official Disney info, there is no way those appear to be 2 disc releases. They appear to be SE's as compared to the prior single disc releases, not the older 2 disc releases. Knowing Disney, they would actually release new single disc editions and call them SE's.

Disney has been doing some bang up jobs with their 2 disc SE titles. NO doubt this is geared towards kids, but 2 disc seems very plausible

Cover from dvdanswers.com

Looks like it is a 2 disc judging from the spine.

TARZAN SPECIAL EDITION

Wild with exotic adventure and laughs, Disney’s TARZAN® is a magnificent, animated adaptation of Edgar Rice Burroughs’ classic story of the ape man. But with the sudden appearance of Tarzan’s own kind, including the beautiful Jane, two very different worlds become one. Driven by five powerful songs from pop superstar Phil Collins, including the Academy Award® winning “You’ll Be In My Heart” (Best Song, 1999), Disney’s TARZAN® delivers incredible adventure as well as important reminders about acceptance and family.

I will be holding onto my original 2-disc as well. Certainly Disney could have picked any number of other classic titles for a spiffy 2-disc treatment instead. I'm sure many on this thread have a few titles in mind...

You know, I think the biggest loss is the pencil art on the original 2 disc SE. That's something you would have seen back in the laserdisc days, when they weren't trying to entice joesixpack with floating heads and explosions.

Very glad I grabbed it back in the day.

yah, i am still seeking out the old 2 disc...i am hoping that this release will at least bring the cost down a bit, or someone unknowingly will trade in the old for the new. I had the single disc release and sold it for more than what this new edition will cost so i'm happy either way.

good find by the way

I'm sure it's already been said, and if so allow me to say it again:

The artwork for the original 2-Disc set is way better than what we have here. This one looks like it's just flat out blatantly targeted at children, making the original 2-Disc version the one to own for adults.

I expect the same for The Emperor's New Groove as well.

I have no problem with any of this though. I've always wished that Disney would release two versions of their films, one aimed at adults and one aimed at young children.

This is why I don't try to cash in on eBay and sell the out-of-print original before a new release comes out. You never know when the company's going to end up putting less adult-oriented features on the new release.
