I've done searches on purpose over there to find news. Last bit was from April or something.

I'm not buying it either. I believe the initial sales sucked, but have they continued to suck? It's currently ranked at 534 on amazon.com. I know those aren't stellar numbers, but there are sure a hell of a lot more poorly performing DVD sets out there getting releases.

That is what I was thinking... Also ratings wise it has always been middle of teh line for the WB... much lower rated shows have gotten there entire run on DVD since....

Given the huge outpouring of DVD season sets lately, I have to believe that it represents an almost guaranteed source of profit if all the licensing is wrapped up. I wish there was a way to bring more pressure to bear on them to get season 2 out. I bought season 1, so there's my vote in the only currency that counts in the corporate world. I'm sure a sizeable number of people would even commit to a preorder if that would help.

I am a newbie and just finished the first season yesterday. And yes I am being tortured now by this huge cliffhanger. Warner owes it to me bringing the second season to dvd. How can they leave me behind like this?

So according to this , they aren't planning on releasing the other seasons...

Everwood - No Plans for seasons 2, 3 or 4
Posted by Gord Lacey
6/07/2006

We've been slammed by Everwood fans asking about future releases of the show on DVD these past weeks, and Everwood fans nearly took over the chat with Warner Bros hosted by the Home Theater Forum last night. Fans repeatedly asked about the series, prompting the moderators to plea that people not ask about the series. Warner Bros made it very clear that they don't have any plans to release seasons 2, 3 or 4 on DVD.

"But why won't they release more Everwood?" The simple answer is that not enough people bought seson 1. Once a studio releases a show to DVD they watch the sales of the set and use that to determine whether it's in their interest to continue with the series. If the sets sells well then they'll release season 2, but if it doesn't sell well then they don't schedule any more sets. Fans of Everwood can convince Warner Bros to release the other seasons by purchasing season 1, assuming they haven't already done so. Writing letters and starting petitions won't help; the DVDs have to sell. It's true that the show has a very vocal fan base, but it appears to be too small to support future releases of the series on DVD.

Unfortunately we won't be able to reply to any more requests about the status of Everwood on DVD, and emails about the subject will be ignored.
I think I am going to be sick. I need my Everwood on DVD damn it.

that's pretty disgusitng..

i forget how accurate those wb chats are, but they also said they may revisit later, as the music rights are also too expensive to continue. It's gotta be ridiculous this is one of the few successful longrunning series that isnt readily available on dvd.

Besides music issues, S1 apparently didnt sell very well. And season 1 came out like 4 years ago.

You guys do know its a nice 6 disc-er for 17 bucks nowayadays? It'll make a nice gift

I'm actually tempted to start giving it away as gifts to prop the figures.

A few other things to keep in mind (said some of them before, but must have been in the TV section):

1) Sales may be low, but this past week alone the series has skyrocketed on amazon.com. It was apparently #64 in dvd not too long ago (not bad) and number 8 yesterday, followed by 9 atm.

2) They just sold the show into distro rights with ABC family. I think that needs a while longer to play out before they will release dvds. ABCFam needs an opportunity to capitalize on the deal they just made - at least I think that would be the WB/ABC logic.

3) Seriously, look at some of the other random stuff from the 80s and 90s that is making its way out. No Everwood season 2-4? EVER? Don't see how that can happen.

4) How many times have you heard a tv or movie company claim ignorance on a subject or reject a claim only to have it substantiated shortly thereafter?

Sigh. I'm still reeling over the finale anyway. Hope to see these come out on dvd. The GF is still yelling at me (after complaining about the finale), "Yeah, well I wouldn't know since I don't know what happened to that kid!!"

EVERWOOD was alwas the critical darling of the WB. It never really had great ratings or a rabid fan base, it just had a lot of critical praise and devoted fans, a lot like FELICITY. Without the critics I'm not sure if there would have been a season three, and I just guess that doesn't turn in great DVD sales. And the music issue could be a major one as well. EVERWOOD is a WB show and therefore has a lot of cutting edge music, and if it wasn't licensed right for broadcast, it would be way too expensive, and if I'm not mistaken Warner Brother's prides itself on never switching music like what happend with the ROSWELL and DAWSON's CREEK and FELICITY sets.

Well... if switching music is what it takes, I say go ahead.
I totally agree with you. I am rather anal when it comes to tv-on-dvd. But at this point as far as everwood is concerned, I would be first in line to buy the set even if: it was standard frame with mono sound, no special features, all the original music was changed, and it came in a paperbag... I just want the story!

Exactly. Do what you got to do damn it, just get me my Everwood. I would rather have a great set but, at this point, I will take what I can get.

Honestly, I wouldn't mind either. I really can't say I recall what songs were played in season two. I know a few fans would be pissed if some songs got replaced, but if I want the sound track, I will buy the sound track. Give me the DVD sets. And it's been selling well at amazon.com, even before the price drop, so I honestly don't buy the lack of sales BS excuse. It's gotta be mainly music rights. Music rights have held up the best shows that would be instant best sellers, so we know that's got to be the bottom line. Hell, they can crank out season sets of cult shows with a smaller following than Everwood. Sales my ass.

The series finale was great. It's a shame the rest of the seasons won't be released anytime soon or at all for that matter. I bought season 1 when it was first released as well as the CD soundtrack... It's a shame. The show just kept getting better and better as the season's went on.

P.s. - if the WB did what FOX did with ROSWELL and have the original music people from the show select new and cheaper songs to cut down on licensing, then it's something I'm willing to accept. As long as the original theme song is kept of course, but I imagine that was an original song for the show rather than something they'd need to worry about licensing.

Yes the theme song was written for the series. When they replaced the song for DAWSONS CREEK I was soo pissed because the new song is like nails on a chalk board its so bad... I used to love the openings but now I have to skip them so I don't go insane. But I'd rather skip the openings than not have the episodes at all.

I think it's more of a case that the sales were not high enough to continue this series which was expensive to bring to DVD (WB specifically mention that the music rights cost a lot).

So there's no point in just looking at sales figures and comparing them to other series which may be quite a bit cheaper to license and release.

The series needs enough DVD sales to show a healthy profit which is made difficult by the high initial costs.

Unfortunately, we're now faced with a vicious circle; people won't buy the first season if they know the others are most likely not going to appear, and until the sales go up for the first season....etc

I read the news on tvshowsondvd and it really pissed me off; they basically said we'd NEVER EVER see the rest of the seasons on DVD. Well, as you guys already said they are releasing old crap on DVD every day that must have a much smaller fan base than Everwood, and some even with the original licensed music.

Man, I'm so angry that I don't even know what to write. This sucks majorly, and I'm so glad I kept my files of season 2-4 on my harddrive. Even though it's not the same, of course.

Since the pigs can't be bothered to take my money, that will be the way to go...
Yah... I am so glad that I recorded all the episode off the WB starting with season 2, looks like I'll have a poject this summer putting them on DVDR (yah!), except season 4 which is already on DVDR.

Still looks like no season 2. "Music rights too costly".

http://tvshowsondvd.com/newsitem.cfm?NewsID=7285

Also, it appears ABC Family decided to do one run of the series and then stopped.

As we have been discussing at HTF, Warner Brothers needs to realize that with EVERWOOD the fans don't care about music nearly as much as the episodes, and many would be perfectly happy with replace music and zero special features...

That's actually a good point I hadn't thought of. My initial reaction with these sort of things is to get upset and mad at the companies (in this case WB). However, as you stated - at least in this case - it's about the episodes. Likewise, there aren't many places where I can specifically match a song with an episode. Although I do think I recall them once it is on screen (if that makes sense).

Plus you have to consider the fact, at least for me, that when this first started happening the songs were what made the scenes in a lot of cases. Listing a few examples that I can think of:

The OC - Ryan/Marissa on the farris wheel South - Pain the Silence
Roswell - Max/Liz at the end of the pilot DMB - Crash (A good example here of a deletion is Sex and Candy was replaced at the beginning of the episode. Don't particularly like the song, but I noticed when it was'nt there)
Felicity - Don't recall episode, but scene dealing with Ben and Felicity on a roof in season one BMB - Crash [No I'm not stuck on the song, but it happened to be popular back then ] (Another good example of a change is that during the end of an episode in season one where they took out a Mark Cohen song and stuck something totally different in. Completely changed the feel of the scene)

There are no outstanding memories of Everwood scenes with music for me. Any music substitutions they made would probably go unnoticed by many. They had music, yes, but it wasn't really a music driven show like WKRP or Wonder Years.

I think I agree based on memory. If I went back and watched the old episodes I something could jog my memory.

Regardless....there is hope!!

They already butchered my favorite show Roswell, but I bought it anyway because I am a fan of the show. I am like that for Everwood too. With Everwood the music really didn't capture me like other shows. It was mainly the show itself. So just hurry up and give me my Collection so I can complete it.
