I bought the original Evil Dead: Book of the Dead, but now I wish I just opted for the $10 regular edition. Once the novelty wore off, it was just a gross, stinky, piece of foam that doesn't fit well on my DVD shelf. I'm not buying another one of those.

It's actually from exercise videos and I believe some kids titles like "Thomas the Tank Engine". Seriously.

The original Book fits great on my shelf. Just keep the plastic tray that it came packaged in.

That is how I keep mine. Sits on the shelf just fine and I hardly black out from the smell anymore.

TomOpus 06-01-05 07:37 PM

I bought the first Book of the Dead a long time after it was released. I think Best Buy had a sale for like $18. I guess the stink wore off because I couldn't smell anything.

I was disappointed :(

from davis dvd

It's back to the "Evil Dead" well for another helping of ghoulish mayhem with Anchor Bay's Evil Dead 2: Book of the Dead 2. Director Sam Raimi's kick-ass sequel gets a wicked re-release this time around with its very own collectible Necronomicon "Book of the Dead" packaging designed, once again, by special effects guru Tom Sullivan. As an added bonus over the last Necronomicon release, you'll be able to press the bulging eye to hear the book scream! Look for the disc itself to feature the first ever high-definition Divimax transfer of this classic film, along with new and exciting bonus materials. No street date yet, so stay tuned.

A must buy for me. I personally have no problem with the First Book of the Dead, dont find it cheap or too smelly.

RoboDad 06-01-05 11:34 PM

For reasons that completely escape me, I am unable to resist any new release that comes along of this series of films. So, it's a quadruple-dip for me! ;)

must be a different set... everytime i look over my dvd collection on my shelf i get embarrassed of that book of the dead set. haha it is so cheap it makes my shelf look like the ghetto shelf or something.

i'm afraid to touch it because i could get some kind of weird foam cut on my hands from the weird fabric.. i am convinced it was a practical joke by the raimi's.. they are behind it they are behind everything... my moneys on theodore raimi.

i have bootlegs i like better than the stink book. hahahahahaha.

along with new and exciting bonus materials.
That will be the determing factor in my decision to rebuy this.

What are the odds the battery won't be replaceable either?

Same here. I don't know where this "cheap packaging" conversation is coming from. I think it is kick ass personally, but I'm an ED whore :D

caiman 06-02-05 08:34 AM

I can't believe you people are so hung up on the packaging and the smell (which is a less than non-issue in my opinion). Did you forget to read the part about a new hi-def Divimax transfer? Why would you pass this up? Oh yeah, because the rubber case smells like rubber...

Liquid Death 06-02-05 10:33 AM

As with Evil Dead 1, I hope this comes in a non-BOTD edition, tho for transfer reasons, I passed on both and got the Elite DVD.

I'm sorry, but when you introduce some worthless "gimmick" casing that stinks up an entire room for weeks on end, i tend to be a little hesitant on its purchase.

If you want a worthless cover that panders to the masochistic individual who has to own every single re-release of the "Evil Dead" movies then be my guest.

I own ED2 currently and i can wait for a "regular" release that will go with my other DVD's and also won't make any plants within the local area wilt.

grim_tales 06-02-05 02:07 PM

The extras will be what convinces me to buy this too. :)
I got the AB R1 SE of Evil Dead because I wasnt sure if I'd like the film (never seen it) and didnt want to spend money on the smelly book so went for the cheaper one instead. :)

scott shelton 06-02-05 02:08 PM

As long as I can toss that godforsaken tin to the four winds, I'm good.

Bring on the squeezable stinky.

TylerDurden_73 06-02-05 02:43 PM

Must ...try...not ...to...Double dip...

I'm sure they'll release a non-BOTD edition for a substantially lower MSRP like they did with Evil Dead 1, so I'll just get that.

Adrenaline 06-02-05 07:41 PM

Hope it has a nice 6.1 DTS track like the first one

Thats exactly what i did. Works like a charm. Same applies to the baboon tin on Total Recall, i keep it sitting in the carboard bottom it came with.

Personally, i hope they over produce this as well as the last one. I waited a few years on the first botd, let it air out on someone elses shelf, and picked it up cheap. Mine doesnt smell at all now unless you do lines on it.

surfingelectrod 06-02-05 11:50 PM

Same here, I bought mine last year. It was not only less than retail, but I even got a discount because the shrinkwrap was ripped! I'm hoping for an entire trilogy of books.
