Evil Dead 2 - Book of the Dead Edition

According to Dread Central:

This time around we’re getting it wrapped up in it’s very own Book of the Dead packaging, and just like the Book of the Dead release of Evil Dead a few years back, this one is designed by effects guru Tom Sullivan. As an added bonus, this DVD case will feature a bulging eye that, when pressed, elicits a nice, bloodcurdling scream, which I’m sure will make for some very surprising moments when it’s put away on it’s shelf.

The actual movie itself will be, for the first time ever, a hi-def Divimax transfer, and reportedly a host of other goodies will come on it as well.

I'm in

Sweet!

Mr. Cinema 06-01-05 07:33 AM

I hope this comes in another case.

Anyone remember those old Frankenhooker VHS boxes? :)

Lastdaysofrain 06-01-05 08:02 AM

"wanna date?"

darkside 06-01-05 09:34 AM

Well, I bought the first smelly book of the dead so why not double dip on Evil Dead 2.

dick_grayson 06-01-05 09:36 AM

I guess my limited edition tin isn't the only one to have anymore. (don't mind double-dipping with anchor bay, for some reason)

OldBoy 06-01-05 09:38 AM

any release date?

Actually, it's only the fourth release of Evil Dead II (third release if you count the tin and the regular edition the same).

Geofferson 06-01-05 10:45 AM

Cool - time to ditch the tin!

Hopefully they keep all the extras (read: commentary) from that disc, which I hope would give me a reason to ditch my tin aside from the transfer.

Daniel L 06-01-05 11:18 AM

Would love to see a new transfer (it's about time, actually) but I also hope there is a no frills edition... Just never been big on packaging like this I guess.

LucyMonostone 06-01-05 12:05 PM

i have the first one and i gotta say it's not really that good... the fabric is really cheap feeling.. from a distance it looks kind of cool but when you get up close and hold it.. kind of looks a bit cheap.

i would liked to see better quality.

eXcentris 06-01-05 12:27 PM

First one looked awful and stank so I'm keeping the tin.

DJ_Longfellow 06-01-05 12:49 PM

WTF...not another one....oh no

Jackskeleton 06-01-05 12:52 PM

Ha, they just find new ways of repackaging and reselling evil dead to us.

RKillgore 06-01-05 12:54 PM

So, are they going to do the same thing for Army of Darkness so you can recreate the scene where Ash has to choose between three copies of the Necronomicon?

Not to spread idle rumors, but I wonder what the likelyhood that Sam used some of his bajillions of Spider-Man money to get the necessary rights to release Within the Woods?

There is no rights issue with Within the Woods. All rights were cleared. Renaissance Pictures refused to let it be released on the Evil Dead Book of the Dead release at the last minute. No amount of money from Spider-Man will make Sam Raimi change his mind.

Never was able to get the tin, so I'll pick this one up to go with the first one.

Zodiac_Speaking 06-01-05 01:47 PM

Well, the release I have from AB is really good. But my sister can have that one, this new one looks sweet!!!!!!!!!!!

looks sweet on paper but what to you hold that cheap foam in your hand. haha. it tears easy, it smells like burnt foam if hot in room and it's hard to put with other dvds next to them IE so it needs it's own little spot on the shelf.. that being said i will probably pick it up just so my other book of the dead has a friend.

UAIOE 06-01-05 02:06 PM

So now ED2 gets a "stink of the dead" book edition?

I'm curious about these new extras, but i too hope for a regular edition that doesnt make small animals pass out from the smell.

ArchibaldTuttle 06-01-05 02:09 PM

I am totally buying this, but I'll probably just throw the packaging out, the lumpy cover will make it a pain to deal with and it won't sit right on the shelf. I think I am for good or bad one of the few people on here that could care less about all the collectible peripheral crap that comes with the actual dvd discs these days. Just give me the best transfer possible.

I'm still convinced that 90% of Anchor Bays profits come from the Evil Dead trilogy and Halloween.

Joe Molotov 06-01-05 02:20 PM

I bought the original Evil Dead: Book of the Dead, but now I wish I just opted for the $10 regular edition. Once the novelty wore off, it was just a gross, stinky, piece of foam that doesn't fit well on my DVD shelf. I'm not buying another one of those.

LucyMonostone 06-01-05 02:27 PM

It's actually from exercise videos and I believe some kids titles like "Thomas the Tank Engine". Seriously.

surfingelectrod 06-01-05 03:12 PM

The original Book fits great on my shelf. Just keep the plastic tray that it came packaged in.

That is how I keep mine. Sits on the shelf just fine and I hardly black out from the smell anymore.

TomOpus 06-01-05 07:37 PM

I bought the first Book of the Dead a long time after it was released. I think Best Buy had a sale for like $18. I guess the stink wore off because I couldn't smell anything.

I was disappointed :(

Cameron 06-01-05 09:13 PM

from davis dvd

It's back to the "Evil Dead" well for another helping of ghoulish mayhem with Anchor Bay's Evil Dead 2: Book of the Dead 2. Director Sam Raimi's kick-ass sequel gets a wicked re-release this time around with its very own collectible Necronomicon "Book of the Dead" packaging designed, once again, by special effects guru Tom Sullivan. As an added bonus over the last Necronomicon release, you'll be able to press the bulging eye to hear the book scream! Look for the disc itself to feature the first ever high-definition Divimax transfer of this classic film, along with new and exciting bonus materials. No street date yet, so stay tuned.

Heartagram 06-01-05 10:08 PM

A must buy for me. I personally have no problem with the First Book of the Dead, dont find it cheap or too smelly.

RoboDad 06-01-05 11:34 PM

For reasons that completely escape me, I am unable to resist any new release that comes along of this series of films. So, it's a quadruple-dip for me! ;)

must be a different set... everytime i look over my dvd collection on my shelf i get embarrassed of that book of the dead set. haha it is so cheap it makes my shelf look like the ghetto shelf or something.

i'm afraid to touch it because i could get some kind of weird foam cut on my hands from the weird fabric.. i am convinced it was a practical joke by the raimi's.. they are behind it they are behind everything... my moneys on theodore raimi.

i have bootlegs i like better than the stink book. hahahahahaha.

Mountain Biker 06-02-05 01:21 AM

along with new and exciting bonus materials.
That will be the determing factor in my decision to rebuy this.

Fincher Fan 06-02-05 05:48 AM

What are the odds the battery won't be replaceable either?

Same here. I don't know where this "cheap packaging" conversation is coming from. I think it is kick ass personally, but I'm an ED whore :D

caiman 06-02-05 08:34 AM

I can't believe you people are so hung up on the packaging and the smell (which is a less than non-issue in my opinion). Did you forget to read the part about a new hi-def Divimax transfer? Why would you pass this up? Oh yeah, because the rubber case smells like rubber...
