The Samurai Trilogy for something like $13.00 each during DDD's 20% off sale. I got Hamlet for about $15 at Half Price Books.

Insomia for $11, plus the shop had a "rewards" program and I got another $5 off, so $6.

A buddy of mine didn't really care that he owned a white-ring copy of The Killer and gave it to me for free about six months ago. I felt bad so I gave him my old OOP version of M and a few other DVDs I had upgraded to new versions.

I also lucked out and got a legit copy of Hard Boiled on eBay for $40, including shipping a few weeks after that.

Those two deals took away the pain of the other $600+ I've spent on OOP Criterions this year (Salo $400, Flesh/Blood $50 each, Unbearable Lightness $70, How to Get Ahead $80)

Several years ago, after it had gone out of print and before the MGM release came out, a buddy of mine in Georgia (I'm in PA) were chatting on the phone and talking movies and he's like "Do you know how much they want for Spinal Tap? Like $30!" I said to him "That's out of print, it goes for $150 or something on eBay." He's like "Do you want a copy? They have it at the local Suncoast." Sent him a check and had it in my hands the next week.

I've been very lucky with CC's for the most part over the years. I bought a lot of the OOP discs when they came out, which helped too. Right now the only OOP I don't have in one form or another is Playtime, and that's coming back into print next year.

The best deal? Free. I visited 3 GameStops in the course of a week that had 10 Criterions in their 2/$10 bin, when the B2G1F sale was on a few months back.

The Lady Vanishes
Blood for Dracula
Flesh for Frankenstein
The Seventh Seal
Throne of Blood
Haxon

Can't remember them all..

For myself, though, I got Robocop for $20, Silence of the Lambs for $15, Armageddon for $8, and The Rock for $15. These were all recent purchases.

The only Criterion DVD I own is Chasing Amy and that's because it's the only version out there. I'm not really a fan of Criterion. I'd honestly just prefer the cheaper versions any day. Anyway I got it free from a friend who didn't want it so I lucked out.

$5 for Gimme Shelter at the pawn shop
$20 for the Killers at Wherehouse (which I had actually seen there a year before, and thought that it was too much to pay, until I found out its typical price, thank god they put it in backstock)
$23 for Videodrome on DDD (20% sale)

You guys must have some good places, most places here don't even know what Criterion is, let alone have them for sale. Gamestop in my area usually has the hum-drum movies.

Apparently GameStop doesn't differentiate, seeing as how every Criterion I have come across there was $4.99, except for "Throne of Blood", which was $9.99. They do, however, know Disney, and the OOP's still only sell for $14.99.

They wanted $50 for "ROOTS" though.

A few good deals:

#3 - Got 2 copies of the newly OOP Straw Dogs for $9.99 each at Tower when they were mispriced as the barebones MGM edition.

#2 - Got Notorious (OOP) and Hamlet, both used, for $9 each and got a free dvd (Dogtown and Z Boys) in the EB Games B2G1F sale about 2 weeks ago.

#1 - Got The Third Man, 8 and 1/2, and Hamlet FREE from Columbia house as part of a B1G1F offer which I combined with the 40% off box set sale used to get Titanic 3 disc, Ben Hur 4 disc, and Wizard of Oz 3 disc for insanely cheap. All 6 of those titles, plus Gladiator EE and the Naked Gun box set, were had for $105 including shipping!

Back when Media Play was doing the Trade 4 or 5 and get a "new release" $27.99 or under free, I went to the dollar store and stocked up on enough to get 3, I think. I even told the guy at the counter what I was doing just to make sure I was on the up and up. This was when it first started, and they just didn't care. Even better yet, I didn't really have to get a new release, so I ended up getting Hidden Fortress, Yojimbo and the Office first series for $12-$15.
I also picked up a copy of brief encounter for $8 in a clearance bin there once.

Pawn shop finds:
Sanjuro- $5
Rushmore- $5

CD Warehouse:
The Rock- $15
Sullivan's Travels- $10
