There are hard street dates on most DVDs, so no, that's not one of the perks. Of course, getting the best price on a box set like this one is. I looked at the box again today, and I was mistaken about the case type. They're not slim, but regular-sized and according to the spines, each holds 2 discs, which equals 6. I'm really glad they decided against 3 double-sided discs. Tuesday can't come soon enough.

I guarantee we'll sell out of these things by the time my shift is over (3 PM).

But some online stores have different volumes as well, so it looks like you can buy 3 different volumes separately, with 2 discs each, that go for about 17 bucks for each set. Very little stores carry those, and only a few more carry the full season boxset.
This is Season 1, Vol. 1 and consists of 33 episodes. Vol. 2 is supposed to be out by year's end.

the discount is the best part of my job...pay sucks, but when you get everything at a little above cost, its worth it

Well, I got out of work and went straight to Best Buy. Freakin' sold out! AND, there was a guy in front of me who was just having an employee tell him in the isle 'no we sold them all'. He was standing around like an oaf while I decided to get a move on and check FYE. FYE had it filed under the childrens or 'family' section instead of television, so I got this. And surprisingly, it was CHEAPER than Best Buy. FYE had it 49.99 while Best Buy had it for 53.99. The quality isn't bad, as good as it can get I suppose, but I expected more out of the picture quality. GI Joe was better quality I think and isn't that older?

Yeah, the picture quality was ok, but I'm surprised Warner didn't handle this set as it's smaller company Rhino did with the Hasbro toons.
Also, the first ep has been cut. They cut the original openning epilogue as well as a short scene of the cats discussing whether to bring young Liono out.
I fear the possibility other parts of the episode is cut as well as other eps in the set could be cut too!!
Est tu Warner??!!

I saw it at Target today for 49.99. I might pick it up come payday Thursday if it's in my budget.

My Best Buy had plenty of them for $53.99. I went to the customer service desk and they pricematched it to Amazon's $45.44 price. I'd never tried that before, but it worked.

Watching the first episode now.

I did too. Looks very cool. A bit pricy for a "pick it up for nostagia's sake" in my book.

what i have noticed so far...

The first episode techincally isn't cut. THe first few episodes were considered a movie at one point, and some scenes in the movie were diffrent/extended. however when they put them together and split them for the tv show some things were moved around or replaced such as kit and kat pushing each other into probes and what not....

the only probelm i have noticed so far is that there is no music track in the second episode. The theme song is in the opening, but none of the moody symphonic/electric sound during the actual episode. Not sure how or why this happened, i assume the masters were messed up. Some shows open with the close captioning imprint some don't.... the picture quality is decent, but nothing to write home about.

Yeah, that is a bit pricey for 33 episodes. Aren't the MotU sets (with the same amount of episodes) going for about $10 less and those have fully restored prints?

Weren't the first few episodes made into a movie called "Exodus" or something like that, showing how the Thundercats came into being? (Is that what you mean?)
I'm sure I saw this on VHS back in the day. I'm glad the episodes are uncut though (if you meant theyre all uncut).
As another poster said the set is expensive, probably too expensive just to pick up to "relive my youth"

Thats exactly what i am talking about. Exodus was the movie. They chopped it into the first three episodes and re-animated and re edited certain things. I do hope they release the movie as a stand alone in the future with some bonus content.

The music thing in the second episode is still the strangest thing to me....kills the atmosphere.

My comment about the cuts wre due to comparing it to the 4 episode
"Exodus" VHS released by FHE. Episode 2 "Unholy Alliances" had no music whatsoever, but both French and Spanish tracks have them intact. I'm glad I have my Exodus VHS, which is in superb condition, for a video.
I really am surprised that Rhino, a small company owned by Warner Bros. released a better product for the Hasbro cartoons. Ok sure, they weren't perfect, nitpicking aside, but we got a great product.
We Should let Warner know of these problems, no matter how small they may be. I hope they don't already know and plan to do nothing about it.

no word from anyone else on this that i have seen...I wonder if warner will comment on why the music was left out, and so on. Any other message boards up in arms on this one.

I was also told by someone today that hot topic were selling the 3 keep cases seperatly. I had not seen this anywhere else. They are listed as seperate on their website, but they don't seem to be selling the box...weird they all have a seperate UPC so this could be true. dvdaff has not listed them seperatly yet though...

There's a thread at Home Theater Forum in regards to the errors on the Volume 1 Set and Gord Lacey from tvshowsondvd.com has indicated that an e-mail has been sent to Warner and they are looking into it.

I hope that Warner is able to do a better job in rectifying the errors on Thundercats than they did with the Tom & Jerry Volume 1 set.

It seems the trailer that included a release date for the 2nd volume has been removed from the WB's web site...

Also, the link they have to purchase the first volume set from them now goes to a page that doesn't load.

Perhaps they are re-evaluating the set and the release of the 2nd volume? Hopefully replacements/recalls will occur.

I also got a look in a hot topic store today. They are selling the three disc outside of the box set. Each has a Shiny silver slipcover, with the classic logo on the front. It is the exact same disc inside the box set

And can people who don't live in Canada/USA do this?

Lots of studios won't issue replacement/fix discs to non-r1 residents, even those who bought the discs there. :-(

To give them credit, Warner are sending out post-paid envelopes to people who call them, but that's not much use for someone who lives in the UK!

I'd be happy to mail the dodgy disc to Warner at my own expense.

I just want the fixed disc, even if I have to pay a little to get it.
