Thundercats: Season 1, Volume 1 Release Date
 

TVShowsonDVD.com has the release date for Season 1/Volume 1 of Thundercats as August 9th. The set contains 33 episodes from the first season, with the second 33 episodes of Season One to be found later in a Volume 2 release.

My thoughts exactly. That's like 3 seasons worth for any other series.

A lot of animated series do this actually. They'll have a big order up front, then a few small orders down the line. Batman TAS is like this.

It's a lot of episodes, but really a small amount of time. These shows were produced to be shown 5 days per week. At that rate, the first season lasted about 13 weeks. This is about half of a normal season of, say, a primetime drama.

No, actually, the first season of Batman: TAS had 65 episodes, but season 2 has just 20.

He-Man had TWO 65-episode seasons. For a total of 130 episodes. Thundercats was the same way. Two 65-episode seasons.

What made these seem to draw out longer was probably the syndication and re-runs. But like djteoll and milo bloom said, these programs were made to run 5-days a week. Unlike toons these days where you my get a series of 3 episodes per week. I think Gargoyles were shown like that. Yeah, if you go look up the Gargoyles episode guides, you'll have a few episodes aired here and there, and then you'll see a string of 4 or 5 episodes aired back to back, if they were like a part of a single story.

Thanks for some reason I though that came out May 24 around time of next BTAS volume. I guess I was wrong, more time to save up!

I know it has been a while since it originally aired but i remember when Batman TAS first came out and it seems like it wasn't that many episodes.Maybe they just played a small batch at first and then ran reruns for a while before playing the rest or something.

Can't wait for Thundercats to come out though,and Voltron is looooong overdue.

Regarding these classic '80s toons releases, only one thing concerns me. Will they hold up today, or will they just be cheesey nostalgic releases. I haven't seen these shows in 20 years. And I'm wondering if both in animation style and story telling, will they hold up to today's scruttiny. The He-Man sets look to be awesome with their restoration, but will Thundercats and any others that might be coming down the pipe.

What I'm concerned about the most is the backgrounds. Weren't the backgrounds in Thundercats and in He-Man kinda bland blurry drawings that would turn into moving lines to simulate motion?

I'd be interested to see if the episodes are remastered as well, He-Man was but the old-school Turtles series wasn't.

If the first season (1985) has 66 episodes, how many seasons were there?!
Does anyone remember a feature length (well 70 mins) special called "Exodus" or something that was like the set up for the series, explaining the characters etc?

According to IMDB there were 130 episodes, so does that only make 2 seasons? :confused:

Silly question but are they using uncut versions of the episodes? Because some of them were cut in the UK/Europe (IIRC).

Now we need Mazinger-Z and Great Mazinger (Tranzor Z)

That is my holy grail to have those two original series on DVD.
