He could've been a damn good Bond, but considering the next 3 films in the series were Diamonds Are Forever, Live and Let Die, and The Man With the Golden Gun, maybe he was wise to abandon ship when he did.

By the time the movie was released, he had quit the role, and turned down a multi-picture deal because he was led to believe that the tuxedo-clad superspy would become an anachronism in the forthcoming Woodstock era. Yes, Dalton took the character closer to what Fleming wrote, a more serious Bond without the quips that Connery did badly (IMO) and Moore later did well. Granted, there are some amusing lines from Lazenby ("This never happened to the other fellow."), but Dalton had very few. I think The Living Daylights is a poor Bond film, but I enjoy License to Kill quite a bit.

Diamonds are Forever is serviceable, but Connery is getting long in the tooth. I actually like Live and Let Die quite a bit more now than I used to; it's amusing and I like Moore in the role as opposed to Connery. The Man with the Golden Gun is probably the goofiest plot of a Bond film (worse than Moonraker) due to the absurdity of Scaramanga's desire to find a worth opponent.

I would love to be able to watch all of the Bond films in chronological order, but that seems like it will be at least a year off. I would definitely be up for the Ultimate DVDs those.

James Bond DVDs - New ones ever coming?

Has anyone heard anything about the supposed rerelease of the James Bond DVDs? I've been reading about these for a while but so far, they're not out. Anyone got idea when they're coming, or what's on them, etc?

Just curious...

Rumor has it (and logic dictates) that any re-releases will be done when the new movie is either at theaters or coming out on DVD.

All I've heard so far is that they're cleaning up the pictures, etc.

Which is nice but frankly I'm more interested in the commentaries and stuff.

Surely they can at least get Roger Moore- what's he doing these days?

Been waiting for these for a long time. Didn't want to buy the big sets, only selected titles. Hopefully they're coming out soon.

Better get ready to buy the sets, MGM seems to make you take the good with the bad where Bond is concerned. That's the reason I own "Tomorrow Never Dies," frankly.

I'm sure we can expect Blu-Ray versions in the near future as well.

It has been confirmed by commanderbond.net that Roger Moore has done Commentary tracks for his films. MGM/SONY are trying to get Connery,Lazenby,Dalton and Brosnan to do tracks for there films. Looking like a huge boxset to celebrate 007 in 2007.

From Russia With Love is one of my most wanted dvds, I might even be willing to buy the current one if I could find it...

LOL, the ferret, you can buy mine, cause it's gonna be for sale the second the new version is available.

As for commentaries, I bet they don't get Connery. But all the other guys, they seem more likely to cooperate.

I ran across a uk website once that listed all the confirmed features on the R2 versions of the upcoming releases. All Moore films will have a Moore commentary. All films will have 5.1 audio this time. You Only Live Twice will include the 1967 TV special "Welcome to Japan, Mr. Bond". I still remember seeing this as a kid on ABC and can't wait. This TV special has scenes filmed specifically for it featuring Moneypenny(Lois Maxwell) and someone else(Q I think) in her office. They are discussing the rumor that Bond is getting married(they are unaware the wedding is the fake Japanese one). Wondering who the girl might be, Moneypenny would pull a photo of a girl from the previous films from the files and then scenes from that film would be shown. The special concludes with scenes from the upcoming You Only Live Twice. I've been wanting this a looong time. The Thunderball TV special "The Incredible World of James Bond" was not listed as a feature on the new dvd but still may. This TV special is available the the Deluxe SE laserdisc.

I'd be really surprised if they couldn't get Lazenby to do it. He's not exactly busy these days and it's only one commentary. Dalton is also a possibility. I don't know about Connery though. And Brosnan did do one for Die Another Day, but is he gonna be interested in doing 3 more after the way he was unceremoniously dumped by EON?

I won't re-buy these on dvd but I would definitely pick them up if released on HD or Blue Ray.

I watched The Spy Who Loved Me last week on a whim and the picture quality was really poor. Far worse than I remembered when I first bought them (but then I didn't have a 65" HDTV as well ).

Here's another vote to keep the documentaries though. I wish all movies had 30 minute documentaries that are as good as the ones done for the Bond films.

Yes, I too enjoy the documentaries. It's also cool when the dvd is first started, "Welcome to the From Russia with Love Special Edition DVD" while the music is playing in the background. Good stuff. I'm not sure if I will sell my collection or keep them. It took me a couple of years to get all 3 box sets from the first releases back in '99/2000?

Add me to the waiting for HD set... I'm happy enough with the current discs not to upgrade, but I'm sure like stated, with the DVD release of Casino Royale there will be a big Bond on video roll out...

Huh? Wuzzat? I knew the films had been available on laserdisc, but this is the first I'm hearing about commentaries. Does anyone know if they're different the commentaries on the DVDs?

It amazes me how many times titles are re-released and re-released again. Each time promising better quality. I can understand updating supplemental materials, running commentaries etc. But I wonder when at some point the general public is going to say "enough is enough". I have the Bond films on CED, VHS, Film Prints, DVD, Laserdisc. This is just a ploy for the studio's to continue to make more money. Release the same product over and over again promising better and better quality. How many times can a title be remastered??? I think eventually the public has to say "enough"!!!
