Is there plans to rerelease the early Connery and Moore James Bond films?
I checked Amazon and I could not find Dr. No, Thunderball, Diamonds Are Forever, From Russia With Love, Moonraker, Live & Let Die etc.
Did MGM stop producing them? I don't want to be one of those suckers that pays $30 a copy at Ebay plus the Starz networks are broadcasting almost all of the Bond Movies the last 2 months. Would MGM ever decide to release all the Bond films in one big box set. |
They're in the process of remastering the picture and sound for a release later this year. Every movie is getting that treatment except Die Another Day.

actually they are coordinated to be rereleased when the next james bond movie is released which is next year now, according to mi6.co.uk |
Hmm, well I guess I'll be waiting for the HD-DVD versions then. No use in buying them a 3rd time :)
|
This was the design, everyone was freaking out about last year. I don't think it will ever see the light of day, but take a look and read on.

here it is from mi6.co.uk
http://www.mi6.co.uk/sections/articl...ons.php3?t=&s= Release Date The 007 "Ultimate Edition" DVDs were originally planned for release in October/November 2005 to coincide with the release of the 21st James Bond film in theatres. Since MGM canned the original 18th November 2005 release date, the DVD plans have been pushed back a year. The series will now be released in Q3 2006 when "Casino Royale" hits cinemas. |
I bought each of the three gift sets when they first came out. I never thought they'd be hard to come by or go OOP. I'd suggest hanging around ebay to buy one of the sets for around the list price.

Columbia House still has the first 2 sets that include many of the Connery and Moore films you mentioned. Overstock has the first Bond set available. CH also has Dr. No, Goldfinger (only $6.95), The Man With the Golden Gun, and The Spy Who Loved Me available individually.
|
Will the Ultimate editions have new extras?
|
I want to pick up From Russia With Love, i'd wait for later this year, but Q3 2006? I'll just buy the current edition -- if I can find it, which isn't very likely.
|
Can't believe these have been out of print so long. These movies are practically a license to print money. They missed out on quite a bit of revenue by waiting so long.

Actually, I think this is the second time they have gone OOP. There are sets and then there are different sets. I think they just keep production low so they can come out with a blue million versions. I plan to keep what I have (all of them) and buy my fovorites in HD. |

Yes along with a new transfer for most of the dvd's, they will have new extra's. |
Do you think because the current sets are OOP, they will still hold value even when the new box sets are announced? I'm hoping to be able to sell the current sets for about the price of the new sets.

James Bond movie remasters
Will you be able to buy the remastered SE's seperately? :) Or are they only available in a big box set?
I'd love to have some of the older 60's films remastered. The prints really show their age but the 90's films (how could they make Goldeneye better for example?) may not need them IMO. I was wondering are they still likely to be censored (in the case of a couple of Brosnan films, Licence To Kill et al?) Sorry if I repeated myself and there is a thread elsewhere ;) |

Oh, BTW, License to Kill was a Dalton film. |
I know there hasn't been an official release yet so there might not be an answer to my question either but, are these remastered versions for dvd or hd-dvd? Both?
|
As you say, no one can answer this question... the titles are not announced. And there's no actual consumer HD-based format available yet, and signs that things may get delayed while both sides of the format war try to work things out.
I could say "probably both", but that would be a complete guess. |
