I watched all of season 2 over the past week. I loved this show when I was a child in the 1970s, and I love it even more now.

Yes, that's one of the greatest things about DVD's. They put out the old shows that we grew up watching. I was a child in the 70's also.
Watching these old shows brings back a lot of great memories.

Just ordered Season 3 this week. I thought the series took a nose dive in the later years.
I'll have to be careful about buying any of the next two seasons.

The release has been pushed back to October 6.

Sorry about that, Chief!

Re: Get Smart DVD Rumor (merged)

i got the box set. just finishing s3. What really surprised me were the supplemental discs. They were actually better than the show! and that is saying a LOT!

For those ordering seasons separately, do you get the 5th disc?

I got the entire set for $60. Not sure where...But if you are not getting the 5th disc, then I would highly recommend you getting the entire box set.. they are really worth it. imho.

I don't believe the single season sets have the 5th bonus disc. I bought the Time-Life set and the 5 discs of bonus material are worth the higher price.

No they don't . But i'm ok with that. I knew that ahead of time when I started buying those single season sets.

is it just me or is the video transfer rife with aliasing and other digital artifiacts (especially in motion shots)

Interesting comment. I have been actually floored by the high quality transfer of this show. On my 32" TV it looks almost blu-ray, and it's not too shabby on my 106" front projection screen either.

haven't noticed anything but pristine transfers (except the 1st episode, of course)

Re: Get Smart DVD Rumor (merged)

I've been watching these as well and I think they look great - no artifacting or aliasing at all.

I'm into season 3 from the box-set at this point. Does anyone know why they changed the opening credits to show Max driving up in a blue sports-car instead of the red one, especially when he's still driving the red car in this season (at least in episode 5)? Just seems bizarre that they'd change that opening credit sequence for no real reason...

I just bought and watched season 4. I'd say it's at least as good, if not better, than season 3.

It's season 5 that sucks, so I won't be buying that one.

that's what I thought too. But there's enough good episodes on Season 5 that warrant purchasing it. I have the whole set now and i'm not disappointed in any of the Season sets. I'm glad that I have them all. I would suggest that you get Season 5, I thought it was terrible too before I bought it.

I listened to the Barbara Feldon commentary on one of the S3 episodes and she explained that the automakers of the sports car were one of the show's sponsers that season. It was just a marketing thing.

I ordered all five season sets for under $40 used from Hastings. I had no idea they omitted the bonus discs. Really sucks, but at least I save some shelf space and a good chunk off of what the complete series set is selling for. I hadn't watched this show in years and I don't think I've seen it in syndication since it aired on Nick@Nite in the mid-nineties. Good times.

Thanks. Maybe I will get it.

I do have fond memories of a few season 5 episodes, such as the imposter 99, the baseball team one, and the one where Max gets a banana in the mail.

I had to put Get Smart away for a while during the Horror challenge. I'll have to pick it back up soon even if it's just for an episode or two. Get Smart has been one of my all-time favorite shows.

I do see this, especially in season 5. Even on a SD television, you can spot digital noise around the text of the end credits. While the prints look nice for a show of this vintage, there are some minor compression issues.

I just bought and watched season 5 - it was way better than I had thought it would be. In addition to the three episodes that I listed above, it also includes the episode where the Chief wrote a book with a list of everyone in Control, which he had to retrieve from the library, and then the Chief and Larabee got locked inside the bank vault. This has always been one of my favorite episodes of the entire series - I just hadn't been aware that it was from season 5.

Even having 99 give birth to twins didn't hurt the show very much, because they were almost never shown, and she still went on missions anyway. This is a show that I actually like even more than when I was a child in the 1970s, which is interesting, because there are so many other shows that I like less as an adult compared to when was a child.

See I told you season 5 would be worth getting. I still watch these sets like they were in production today. This show will never lose it's luster. It stands the test of time with me.
