But the good news is, it's not too late to watch it a couple of times, and then sell it off and double your profit.

And the moral of this story is, I've waited over 3 years (since I started collecting DVDs), I think I can wait another 3 months.

But looking at those listings, who in their right mind would buy a non-anamorphic OOP disc for anything over $20 when a new (presumably 2-disc) anamorphic set will come out in 3 months for

I bought the original "Dune" DVD waaay back in the day when BigStarDVD had it on sale for $9.99.

I'll probably hang onto it since it has the old poster art on its cover.

Since its 2.35:1, I doubt they are cropping it.

If they did crop it, it seems like they would crop it to 1.78:1 or 1.85:1.

Well, the fact that the majority of the footage is 2.35, the thought that they would crop the already cropped 4x3 stuff down to 2.35 is what was so horrendous. The beancounter types at the studio would see that the AR is 2.35 and would then order "everything" to be at 2.35. Now, a slightly obsessive compulsive person like me, if given the project, would restore what footage I could to 2.35, then windowbox the other footage in a 2.35 frame. I'm seriously hoping they're going back to the original footage, and re-editing the film.

New menu shots:

Looks like it'll be similar to the Stargate - UE with one cut on one disc and the other on the second disc.

This is one of the few movies where I read the book after seeing the movie. It may not be great, but I still find it very entertaining. I'll be picking it up if the current announced spec are true.

Has there been any info as to whether the special effects will be completed in this extended edition, such as the coloring of the eyes?

You can't just buy the extended, the new release is one release with both the original version and the extended one, that's what he's trying to explain to you.

I too didn't read until after I saw the movie. A lot missing in the movie, but the style and atmosphere make it worth it watching.

I'm buying for the 16x9 theatrical, if the extended does turn out widescreen, that's gravy on top.

Looks like the DTS option has been dropped to conserve disc space:

Disappointing for sure. I would rather see them bump the extras to another disc, but it's still looking like a pretty good set.

Ahh shucks. But then again, do you really *need* DTS on this?

That page you linkied to had talked about a 190 minute cut of the TV cut vs. 177?

the extras sound nice

Well that is just bunk. I wonder why? Possibly a Lynch intervention?

From: Right now, my location is DVDTalk, but then again, you should already know that, shouldn't you?
Just confirmed it on the main menu page of www.dvdanswers.com...f'ing hell--unless this DVD announcement has prompted Lynch to come forward and produce his preferred final cut; if that, then I can happily wait.
