Here's the full details from www.thedigitalbits.com:
The Dune: Extended Edition will be released in a metal snap case (SRP $27.98). 2 versions of the film will be included... a 137-minute theatrical version, and the 177-minute extended edition. BOTH will be available in 2.35:1 anamorphic widescreen (which would mark the first time the extended edition was available in widescreen). The theatrical edition will feature both Dolby Digital and DTS 5.1 audio, while the extended edition will be Dolby Digital 5.1 only. Extras will include never before seen "behind-the-scenes" footage, documentaries on the special effects, visual design and costumes, deleted scenes, original photographs and artwork from the set (newly resurrected from personal collections) and more.
All arguments aside about Lynch's involvement, the best version, etc., I'm just glad this movie is getting a special edition treatment. And it will be nice to have both versions of the film on good quality DVD. The extras sound pretty damn good too.

Somebody mentioned Universal cropping the already 4x3 scenes down to 2.35 for the Smithee cut, but that's just so horrendous to contemplate, I'm forcing myself to believe that Universal undertook this project a little while back and have been slowly pulling out the extra footage from storage, remastering them in WS, and putting together something based on the script or a workprint.

Darn, beat me to it...I was gonna post this, but got sidetracked on a couple other threads.
Cool ass art though, isn't it? That's better than the "FH's Dune - SE" cover-art.

I'm torn on the cover art, I do like the general look, but I also get a Stargate (the movie) vibe from it. Damn, now there's a crossover waiting to happen!

Interesting to see that the studio still thinks that Sting's presence is a major selling point. Considering his role in Dune is the stuff of movie mockery legend, and the fact that he's only in the flick for about 10 minutes, it's odd that they stick his mug up front instead of many of the other stars of the film.

I was at the mall today with wife and kids and I went to GameStop store just to see what dvds were for sale and there it was David Lynch 1984 "DUNE" for $6.99. Like a little kid I grabbed it and I hold on to it like a new toy. For a moment I thought--Should I wait for the extended version? Yes or No? and I said to myself---HELL NO!!! so I took it home. I will be getting the extended one as well but why wait until then since I have it in my hands now. One of favorites ever!!!! BTW, I did a thorough inspection on the disc for any stratches or stains but disc looks good as new. Im very very pleased.
