No trailer on the new Casino? Is this some sort of new policy with Universal regarding re-releases of titles

The differences, as far as i'm concerned, are significant. The UK edition is PAL and I am very sensitive to speed-up, especially when it comes to a film i've seen more than a dozen times. The Canadian release is my only alternative, but I prefer to have a flipper, with the movie on one side and the extras on the other, over a French cover.

I anticipate the content is the same on all three releases, so the choice is really up to you. The definitive release is the new AE, any way you slice it.

You know, this might be enough reason to not trade in my original reason. Universal...I hate you.

yah...the loss of trailers on Jaws is tragic

eau 06-10-05 07:17 PM

Darn! No trailer on new disc. It almost makes you keep the old disc AND buy the new disc.

DeanoBKN 06-10-05 09:01 PM

Aha! I believe the Casino trailer (although slightly modified to announce the new 2 disc DVD) is on the new 12 Monkeys DVD. Maybe I can sell off my old one after all...

So, what is the deleted footage on the DVD? Apparently there is 8 extra minutes of the movie? Has anyone seen it to fill us all in here?

huh, where did you hear that? (out of curiosity, i wonder if universal restored the full uncut head vise scene, that apparenlty appears on starz cable versions.

I got an email on Tuesday of this past week saying that my dvd was sent out. I ordered the 2 disc Canadian version from dvdsoon.com. Hopefully it will be here by the streetdate this Tuesday.

Yes. If you could get some pics up by Thursday, it would be very greatly appreciated, as I expect to make a purchase by Friday (the 17th) *coughs* :)

As I said earlier there will be some french on the cover. In Canada if I am not mistaken, it is a law that everything must be written in French as well as English. My Canadian Orgazmo 2 Disc I got, has a two sided cover. One side with mostly English and the other side mostly French. If the little bit of French on the "Mostly English" side bothers you that much, then make a custom cover by photoshopping out the French. I would rather have a little bit of French on my cover then a dual sided disc. Hey, we all have our preferences.

I think I'm missing some information here, because I have no clue why so many people seem to be against dual-sided discs. Is it just a personal preference, or are there technical considerations I'm not aware of? Of the dual-sided discs I have, I've noticed nothing that would cause me concern - although I'm certainly no expert. Any information one way or another is appreciated.

It is a personal preference. Though, my uncle who owns one of the oldest video stores in NY state has told me numerous times that his dual sided discs get ruined much faster than the single sided counterparts. One thing to keep in mind is that most dvds single or dual sided get treated like total crap when they are rented. So, it boils down to personal preference for me.

mickey65 06-12-05 11:19 AM

I've seen the advertisements for the new SE of the disc which says there is "deleted footage" on it, and the original is at 250 minutes, while the SE is at 258 minutes. An extra 8 minutes worth.

So, no one knows yet what the deleted footage is? If not, I guess I'll have to wait until I get mine from DDD.

It boils down to several reasons:

1. Dual-sided discs require much more care when handling, particularly when removing the disc from some players where it is possible to 'catch' the top of the disc on the top of the unit.

2. Dual-sided discs undergo more wear and tear in the player during playback.

3. The manufacturing process for dual-sided discs, particularly where one or both sides is dual layer, is less reliable, leading to a higher 'dud' percentage.

4. Dual-sided discs don't have any disc art, which some people don't like.

1-3 are the reasons I don't like dual-sided discs. 4 doesn't bother me.

The original clocks in at roughly 2 hours and 59 minutes. No footage has been added to the movie. The review on this site details the deleted scenes.

dvd_luver 06-13-05 03:09 PM

I can't believe that there is no trailer on this dvd. That is just stupid. Yet, come to think of it, they must be saving it for the 20th anniversary edition, lol, yikes!

Simply it's absurd that the studios for a 10th anniversary dvd can't add the darn trailer, they just want to anger dvd aficianados and make more $$$ on the original dvd.
