I chose regular shipping. Sure it's a lousy pen, but it saved us $30.00. Thanks again for putting me on to this deal. I'm sure you'll be getting your notification soon. I wonder if it depends on where you live and what warehouse it's coming out of? That's assuming of course, that they have more than one. I'm in South Carolina by the way.

Got my set today from Dvdempire and the packaging is not to good. Each set is in a cardboard cover with clear disc holders inside. Two disc's in Season one will not lock onto the spindle thing. They were okay, no scratches but I guess I will have to tape them down. Season 2, the clear plastic disc holders are already coming apart from the cardboard cover. The only thing I can think of that I have packaged like this is Wanted Dead or Alive and it came apart after watching it the first time. Will have to look at it more closely later on.

Well, guess we all know now, how they are offering this up at such a good price. Looks like a re-packaging may be in order or a binder. Half of me is pissed but the other half is still looking forward to getting this. If they end up damaged though due to crappy packaging, the smile will quickly disappear from my face and I will be venting right here.

Yay! I got my shipping notice today! So it sounds like they created new packaging for this boxed set, instead of just repackaging the exsisting sets. I would've preferred slim line cases. Does this new boxed set take up a lot of space and is it smaller than all the previous 5 seasons sold individually combined?

Can you post a picture of what the packaging looks like? I'm having a hard time picturing what it looks like based on the description.

So are all the discs on their own trays,or are they the dreaded overlapping packaging?

Sorry, dont have a digital camera but this is very similar:

http://www.vandesteegpackaging.com/p...cts.asp?id=159

Took a closer look and season 3 set, two of the clear plastic trays/disc holders are not stuck to the cardboard cover while the middle tray/disc holder is. It is pretty bad and will only get worse with use.

Hate to re-package but it does look like eventually it will have to done. 20 slim cases will fit in the outer cardboard box but then that will leave 8 slim cases to be stored out of the box.

I was having trouble picturing what it looks like, too. He compares it to the Wanted Dead or Alive set. So I went to Amazon to read the reviews of the Wanted Dead or Alive set. They say it is a book-style package. This is what reviewers had to say about that packaging:

Here's one review:
(Each disc is housed on their own plastic "pages," or panels, which are bound at the spine; just like a book.) It's not enough that it fell apart, but it's bound with what appears to be packaging tape!

Another:
I give a -5 to the packaging. As earlier reviewers have noted the discs are set in plastic trays that are attached together with tape! Not some specially designed extra strength industrial tape designed for the purpose, but thin clear packing tape designed to be easily cut and with limited adhesion. Add this to the fact that -as another person pointed out- you practically have to snap the discs in half to get them out of their trays! I have many other dvd collections and I have never had any trouble releasing discs, but when I tried to pull a disc loose from one of these taped in trays the tray ripped loose from the packaging with the disc still in it! Cheap, cheap, cheap packaging.

Another:
It's nicely packaged, but I prefer Individual holders

Another:
My packaging has not fallen apart. Actually, it's a bit too secure. The case I have keeps a death grip of the discs and lets go only after I yell a lot. If I actually owned a Mare's Leg Winchester like Josh Randall's, I would have used it on the darn packaging! It's by FAR the most difficult case I've ever gotten a disc out of.

Another:
I'm not sure I understand the complaint about the packaging. I have the "Freaks and Geeks" season set that uses exactly the same type of packaging, and haven't had any problems with it wearing out.

Another:
I don't understand why the studio released this golden oldie in a folded cardboard sleeve containing plastic trays that are scotch-taped together! You would think Newline would try to make the package something nice, with its artwork protected in a plastic case -- something along the lines of the way CBS packaged HAVE GUN WILL TRAVEL (each disc in a 1/2 width "keep case"). This is why I took off a star off my rating. Neatness counts, and this packaging is the height of uncool -- almost as bad as those snap-cases!

Hmm.....that sounds a lot like the cases they used for Star Trek: The Original Series, and those are probably my least favorite cases in my collection. So much so that I'm considering buying one of these to house all my Trek stuff.

I was pretty confident that this would just be a repack of the slimpacks together, and I apologise if my opinion influenced anyone to purchase this set.

Nope, your thinking of the Next Gen boxes, here's a pic of the Original series insides.

The "hinge" for the clear plastic holder is nothing more than a wide piece of clear tape.

SR_Gilbert, I 'm not thinking of NextGen. I own seasons 1,2,3 of the 60's series. I just didn't realize the half jewel case trays were held together by a single piece of clear tape. Thought it was an all plastic hinge. Damn, that's good tape. Can't believe it actually holds. And you're right, sounds similar to the TZ Box which is using the full page tray.

No book. You do get fold out sheet for each season describing the episodes etc. I'am going to get Double slim cases as 15 of those will fit into the outer box.

I would encourage anyone who is having a problem with the Packaging to post your concerns here. I received an email from Image requesting links as to which forums I got my information from regarding the shoddy packaging and they appear to be concerned, which is a good thing.

No problems here. The packaging is definitely on the cheap side, but I don't have any scratched discs, tape falling off, etc. I don't want people to think these are defective or something. At $7 a disc, I don't feel ripped off.

Does *anyone* have pics of this? I've been looking forward to this, but I'm pretty disappointed to hear that the packaging sucks so bad. I may just hold out for an HD DVD release at this point.

The DVDs aren't defective, but the packaging is. I frequent 2 other Forums besides this one, and more than a just a few people have gotten these sets and had the jewel pages falling out when they opened up an individual seasons. Had 2 seasons myself with pages falling out, then another the following day. Also 1 broken hub which won't hold the disc. If they were glued on properly this wouldn't be going on.

Glad yours arrived in one piece. Color yourself lucky.

I suppose another option would be to wait until November for DDD's next 20% off sale. Looks like they are packing all 5 of the box sets into one set for $345.80 or $276.64 during the sale. That's only $55.33 per season, which isn't too bad when you see everything that went into them.

Cameron, here's a link from another forum where a discussion on the packaging is going on as well.

Got my set yesterday and it's getting sent back to Amazon.com on Monday. My seasons 2,4, & 5 had 1 plastic page falling out of each one. All I did was open up the damn things up. I was really looking forward to getting these and part of me wants to keep them and just put them in a binder so I'll have them, but I don't think I will. Shouldn't have to be glueing something together I just bought. Maybe they'll change the packaging sometime down the road. This sucks big time.

I got mine today (Saturday). No loose discs but one of my jewel trays is coming unglued from the flimsy cardboard. The rest of the trays will come unglued to if I don't treat it like a newborn baby. The cardboard they used is like the same thickness as a greeting card. Extremely fragile. What were they thinking?!? Too bad Image doesn't put as much care into their packaging as they do their discs. I expected more from them. Next time, I'll have second thoughts before I invest in one of their products again. They should rectify this situation and offer alternative replacement packaging to us, or they have lost me as a customer. Shame on them. They should know better. I have 30 days in which to return this product. If Image doesn't do anything by then, I will send it back.

Rusty, You may want to contact Image and make your voice heard. I believe they're monitoring this thread so I'm told. Maybe they'll offer some kind of packaging replacement if enough of us speak up. (and not the same packaging of course).

I just recieved mine from Overstock. (Bravo only 20 days after release.....jerks.)

The packaging is pretty flimsy but luckily all the plastic "pages" are intact. I had 3 floaters that didn't get scratched. Oh well at least I have the discs now.
