That's an old comparison between the R2 edition and the older MGM Special Edition from years ago. Apparently, the 'new' edition is the same transfer. But that's not the disc that's being used in that comparison.

Ah, my fault. Well I'd certainly like to hope that the new release is anamorphic but I think we can trust the numerous witnesses.

well, for the record, there is a nice new 16x9 transfer (Sept 2004) out from Canal+ on Universal DVD from R3 (NTSC) Korea;
It is actually R0, but if you dont have a code-free player you have forced subs...but if you DO, then you are in the clear.

This should help those bothered by the 4% PAL speedup

Region 0 should play on any DVD player but I am confused about your statement on forced subtitles. Why do you have forced subs only on non code free players? It would seem you either have the option to turn off the subtitles or not. What is the difference if the DVD player is region or code free?

Hmmm... I'm interested in a good NTSC anamorphic transfer. Very odd about the subs. Has anyone compared the transfer quality to the R2/PAL?

Thanks for the tip. Dunno if this is the same transfer, but I see an Asian disc in NTSC 16x9 available at YesAsia.com. I've dealt with these people before without a problem.

Do you, Seashellz, or anyone here have a link for purchasing the Korean DVD you mention?

I'm wavering...if anyone here does go for an Asian version or any NTSC 16x9 version, please let us know how the disc looks.

It appears the region 2 version is no longer available to order at Amazon.co.uk. Does anyone know if it is going OOP?
