BTTF Re-Release 1/25/05
Universal has announced that it's going to be re-releasing Back to the Future: The Complete Trilogy on 1/25 at the new low price of just $27.98. The good news about this is not just the price - the set will contain the V2.0 discs, featuring corrected aspect ratio versions of the films.

Great! Wal-Mart has had these for $29.99 for a while and I always pass them up because of the aspect error. Looks like I'll get it next month!

It's for free (including shipping) to get it replaced, why would you pay for it? I sent my discs back to Universal and they sent me the v2.0 discs back. They sent me the packaging to send them back in as well... so it was 100% free.

I sent my set back to Universal as well and received the corrected v2.0 discs back in about 9 days. I don't understand why anyone would rebuy the set if they can have the same discs as the new set for free. It really is a very easy process. There is going to be no difference between the replacement discs and the reissue in January. I also heard that some defective discs will likely make their way into the distribution stream with the rereleased versions anyway, so there is still a chance that you would have to send them back to Universal. Save yourself time and money and just replace them now.

Universal's upcoming "OUTTA TIME" (sic) promotion tagline touts "Three Great Comedies — Two Favorite Characters — One New Low Price!", however, warns consumers to purchase the collection before it disappears — it'll be available only through Monday, June 6, 2005.
The collection will apparently be placed on moratorium after that date, presumably paving the way for another collection to be issued later in the year to commemorate the series' 20th Anniversary. While no official word has yet to have been given in regards to a new collection, Universal representatives outside the U.S. have reportedly been hinting to international fans that a special edition for the first Back to the Future film is being planned for release sometime during the second half of 2005.

I hate that I turned into a cynic.

I'm with Chem and SWR 1. It was very easy, quick and FREE to get the replacements. This was almost 2 years ago!

Yeah, maybe I could have done the mail in thing for awhile now, but I look at this way: I want any reason I can to take a DVD off my wishlist. If you'll check my link below, you'll see why. This, plus doing my part to let Universal know this is unacceptable, are why I'm waiting to pick this up.
Plus, they're not that good, but at this price they'll be good additions to my collection.
